Default charger help.

hi everyone.
im pretty new to RC things. any any help will be appreciated.
i have a truck with a 7.2V, 1800 mAh battery. but i bought a new baterry so the run time will last longer. so bought a 7.2V 3000mAh. but i need to charge it for ages with the charger that came with the truck, so i need a new charger. could anyone suggest a charger that will work with this battery? that wont cost a fortune?
thanks

Would you consider lipo batteries? A 2 cell lipo is 7.4v and gram for gram has much more run time than nimh or nicd. They can also be charged faster generally.

Welcome to RCU. I guess that you realise a pack that lasts twice as long will need twice the time to re-charge.

Your stock charger is ok , but slow (maybe 1 or 2 amps?)

I'd look for a cheap charger that does around 5 amps or so. A favorite for doing 1/10 scale stuff was always the DTX digital piranha (or Tower digital) Be aware that they can only do 3 amps on AC and 5 amps on DC.

The ONyx also seem to be a favorite now. http://www.duratrax.com/chargers/onyx/index.html

If you swap to lipo batteries some of them can be charged much quicker than nimh or nicd making a lipo of twice the capacity charge faster than a nicd of half the capacity.

7.4 v 2cell lipo will work fine- you may have to solder on connectors that match your esc.
Plenty of entry level charger on hobby king.

If you do use lipos you will need to know how to handle them but they are with it

Yes, they are good.

I meant to say lipos are worth it, not with it! Basically they need some care.

You should never discharge them below a certain voltage (think its 3.4v per cell but double check that) otherwise you can permenantly damage them- many use a low voltage cut off alarm between the battery and esc unless the esc can be programmed. They also should be watched carefully during charging.
