It doesn't care where it gets the power from as long as it can sustain the load the charger is trying to pull.

I use Max Amps power supplies personally. If you're handy you can also convert server power supplies.

You can use a 12volt tractor or car battery.

I got a similar hitec unit myself. Mine comes with an AC cord and a DC power in, For the field I got a lead acid battery from tower. Does quite nicely. Hooks up well to the car battery too.
