Charging times and Chargers
Hello all,
I picked up a 6volt 1100ma ni-cd battery for my receiver (I used to use 4.8volt). I forgot I needed a battery charger so I went back and picked one up, the salesperson sold me a 150 ma charger and said to charge it no more than 10 hrs. I noticed that the battery label stated 14hr at 110ma. I'm new to this and abit confused, Is there a chart I could find that will clarify this? I don't want to overcharge the battery.
Thanks,
Pat

RE: Charging times and Chargers
Multiply the rate by the time to get about 150% of capacity.
150x10 hrs =1500 mah
110x14 hrs = 1540 mah
It won't hurt to use your 150 ma charger for about 12 hrs.

For nicd and nimh and yes. I think nimh mayb say 130%. A low charge rate- say 1/10th of capacity will not damage much as the battery can dissipate the overcharge as heat. Many only stop charging nicd nimh when the battery gets warm (NOT hot!!!)

Consider getting the new chargers...for as little as $30 that will cutoff the charge when the battery is topped up. I know they have been around for years but multichemistry chargers that do nicd, pb, nimh, lipo, life, lion, etc for $30 or less are fairly new.

For instance look up
iMax B6 Lipo Polymer NiMH Nicd Digital Balance Battery Charger
On the auction site or go to hobbyking.com and look at chargers ratings. Many other sites, but you can get a charger that uses 12 volt input for $20-30 shipped and a combo 12 volt supply and charger for $25-35. They will be 50 watt type chargers but will do a pack at 1C in an hour unless you have high amp packs for electric flight.
Get one that does lipo lion and life because life is arguably he best flight pack to use.

I agree with 4*60.. if you are going to get a charger, go ahead and get a Multi chemistry charger, if you don't, you will wish you had.. I am currently in the process of converting all my flight packs to LiFe packs.. Makes life so much easier (For me at least)!!

RE: Charging times and Chargers
Thank you for all you help,
I just picked up the Hobbico Multi Charger. It costs me $30 and will do upto 4 batteries (Nicd, Nimh). After looking around in the LHS today I decided to get this at a low price then I'm going to take my time to see what's available in a flield charger that has all the better features I'm thinking of the Hobbico Elite.
Thanks again,
Pat
