How Can I Test To See If Lipo Is Damaged?
hi guys ...
a turnigy nano-tech, 2S lipo, 5300mah. (hard case)
how can i test to see if this has been damaged?
my charger is a thunder ac6.
newbie, step by step please.
reson for doubt / concern is that i balance charged it only to find that the car sudenly gos into a mode where theres a flashing red light, as if were low voltage detection, and theres no power / speed, as if the bettery was dead / dying.
i should also mention that i made the mistake of charging this battery only to let it sit, without being used. so wondering if that might have caused the damage.
is there a way to test for damage via the charger?
thanks all.

First basic test is to make sure both cells are 4.2 volts and then beyond that perhaps a discharge test while watching voltage of each cell.

thank you guver so much for that.
so youre saying ....
• i should charge it andf make sure they hit 4.2
correct ?
then ...
• discharge it?
correct?
okay and when i discharge it, what should i be doing / looking for?
thanks again.

You should check the voltage without charging since you just charged and it is acting like a dead battery. If it really is a dead battery then it simply needs charged , right?

If you have a voltmeter or watt meter use a servo lead (remove the end black casing to expose the three pins). Put the pins in different holes of lipos balance tap and check voltage.
Or put on balance charge and start charging- can you check the cells voltage on the charger?
If cannot do this you need a wattmeter and or voltmeter and possibly a better charger before you go much further in electric.
All the best

thank you Goldenduff,
yes, i can balance charge and monitor cells voltage.i will do that.
when i do this, what should i be looking for?
thanks again.

As soon as you put it on charge scroll through until it tells you each cell's voltage. They should both be about 4.2v. More than .2v difference between cells is worry some in my opinion....

okay here are the results after the balance charge ...
does the dufference between the two mean that theres a problem?
should i run a discharge and post the results as well?

That's a difference of 0.01 - a lot less than 0.20 so I would say the lipo is fine. Try it in plane. If still a prob your something else is the problem.

hi once again, Goldenduff .....
ive been running it after charging it and its running like a champ!!
the only thing i did differently, was put brand new batteries in the transmitter.
ill consider this problem solved for the moment.

the nanotechs are normally quite good, But at higher capacity there has been a few niggles. If its new it might just need used a few times.
I don't think the charger is accurate which is why it may be not measuring spot on.
The pack could be 4.200 the other might be 4.199 which makes it only 0.001 out. If the pack went over 4.20 then start to consider is it the battery or the charger. where the problem is and is it meant to stop the charge slightly higher than 4.2.
checking internal resistance is a good way to check a pack, unless it's visual damaged. where its swollen more than it should.

trax de max. thanks for that. its a hard case so i wouldnt eb able to tell if there is anything visually out of wack and at the moment i dont have the means to test resistance. either way - your comment is definitely noted and appreciated.
Goldenduff,
hi again. yes im glad i mentioned that there was some kind code / blinking light but i assumed that it would be indicative of the battery not the tx.
either way it was definitely running like a champ the little bit that i was able to play with it, and the only thing i did differently was put some new batteries in the tx.
would have to wait 'till this storm passes to give it some real world test.
in the meantime i wont hear the end of it since i broke one of my wives vases and spilled the dogs water bowl all over the place and nicked her ankle and -oh well, lets just say - i was having fun but its definitely not advised to run these things indoors!
LOL!

The most simple way is to just hook it up to the charger, and start a charge. then you do like this guy @ 7.33 min. Press the inc button to gett to the Voltage menu while it's charging if one cell is reading way low ore high compared to the other cell , then it's probably done.
