Default Mixed Sizes Of Batteries

A definite noob here: I have a Bixler 2 I’m assembling. Let’s suppose I complete the plane, install all the necessary equipment and install my Turnigy nano-tech 1300mah 3Sbattery. Next I check and/or adjust my C.O.G. Okay, off to the field I go.

After I have expired my 1300mah to a safe level, I replace it with my Turnigy nano-tech 3300mah 3S. Here’s (perhaps) lies the problem: My Turnigy nano-tech 1300mah 3Sweighs119g, but my Turnigy nano-tech 3300mah 3S weighs over twice as much. It comes in at a whopping 270g.<o></o>

Question: If I mount them in the same relative position in the fuselage, isn’t my C.O.G. shot? What would be the best course of action; changing the location of the battery in the plane and then checking C.O.G. or adding weight to the lighter battery? Or third, just disregarding the difference in weight? Or fourth, admitting I was a dummy for buying two different size batteries?<o></o>

Yes if you mount in the same position COG is now different. Best to move pack to new position to readjust COG. The plane will still handle a little different because of the added weight though

It would be a good idea to mark inside the fuselage where each battery should be placed to get the same cog. That way you know where to place either battery without having to re-balance every time you swap batteries.

Sounds like the two of you are in agreement.  When I purchased the different batteries I would have never thought there would be such a difference in the weight.  Thanks guys.

(mikejrc2001)  One day while travelling across the U.S. I pulled off the interstate to gas up and discovered Harper's Ferry.  I spent the entire day there.  What a beautiful place.  I would love to go back again.

Indeed Harpers Ferry is a nice place. I live up river from the town out in the country. Nice and secluded. Have the river in my backyard and lots of room for most of my toys. 3 acres clear around the house is enough room to land most of my planes but its tough with the bigger ones because of the trees.
