Default Laid the money down. New Powerlab 8 V2!

This is one sweet charger. Just imagine unleashing 1344 watts of brute charging power on your unsuspecting Lipos. Tightly controlling the balance of each cell with 1A per balance channel. Programming the power-on screen to say "Good morning, Paul"...

Anyhoo, I just got this beast of a charger and man is it sweet. The software interface is fantastic; sooo much information and customization available that its going to take me a little while to learn it all! I'm powering it with a Junsi 1200w supply, so that limits me a bit... but I just couldn't justify the $450 for a 1500w Meanwell supply. All in all, a very nice power supply, tho.

My trusty Triton2 EQ is now used strictly for small batteries (for my mCPX's and other small stuff). I'm just excited about the new gear, and thought I'd share

Nice, the software is fantastic and if you get it a setting wrong, it tells you.
Have you updated the firmwares. I'm not sure how accurate the internal resistance measurements are with non-MPA boards. One of the updates was for more accuracy and another was to add NiZn battery chemistry to the profiles.

Thanks, trax

it came with 3.31 already installed, and Inhave the MPA board on order, so by the end of the week I should be truly set for all my charging needs.

i had to laugh; yesterday I used a $600 charging setup to cycle a 160mAH lipo...

yea, i kept my old charger for smaller batteries and a AA charger for the transmitter batteries, I've sold both these and just use the pl8 for everything from house batteries to my lipo's.
ha ha it's the most expensive AA battery charger.

Default Take It One Step Further

Make full use of your powerlab for under $100. Get two 12 volt 47 amp power supplies from a server. The picture shows the two power supplies wired in series with floating grounds (if you’re not positive on how to do this you can buy them already done like I did for under $100). This gives me 24 volts at 47 amps powered with a small generator. I can crank a good 6S 5000 mHA pack to 95% full in about 8 to 10 min. I can parallel charge up to six packs from 2S to 8S at the same time as long as they are the same. It all fits inside one aluminum case.

Cool,I like your case, Better than mine i used an old plastic tool box. I use 2x games console power supplies, Upto now it's good for my needs. Only done it because very few people have. And it's the most efficient of the supplies i looked at.
Size comparing with the old charger.

And one complete with one about to be modded.

I'll stick with my Junsi supply for now; it's a Cadillac

Here's an update pic: I charged 4 3S 2600 lipos today in less than 10 minutes...

I hope you are not charging this way without some kind of containment system. I just witnessed a battery fire at our club field and you cannot believe the fire until you see it. I guy had just finshed charging a 4 cell 4500 mah battery at 1c rate and had it sitting in the back of his pickup after charging for about 20 min when all of sudden we heard what sounded like air being let out of a tire. Smoke was pouring out the back of his truck and he grab it by the wires and threw it out on the ground just as it burst into flames. It was an almost new battery and had never been crashed or abused. I used to think people over exaggerated these things happening but I will not charge another one in my house unless it is in a fireproof container no matter how small the battery or how smart the charger

Raptureboy, I appreciate your concern, and for sure no one should charge like this unattended!

For this pic, I was constantly monitoring the setup (wanted to be able to touch/feel the wires and packs and monitor temps etc.) Normally I use a lipo sack. I'm actually in the process of installing a pass-through in an ammo can, so I can charge inside it. I imagine an ammo can will contain anything a lipo can dish out! My only though is that I may want the can to vent a bit, and not be totally sealed.

At 40A, the only thing that got warm was the main wires to the MPA board.
