Default Oldie/Newbie Battery and charger advise

I have recently had my first son and looking to get back in RC like I was when a kid. I'm rebuilding my Tamiya Fox from the 80s but will also like to get a Monster Truck sometime next year for the little guy. Do I buy Ni-Cd batteries for my old fox or is there another type that is compatible without modifying the car?

Also possibly looking at Lipos in the future with the new truck, are there chargers that charge both?

Specific Battery recommendations?

Thanks in advance!
Dustin

My brother also have a Tamiya Fox car which was bought in 90s but it is in good condition until now. I hope any type of batteries can be taken, no need to modify the car.
