Buy quality batteries, charge them correctly and they're just fine, NiMh, NiCd or any of the Lixx types. These blanket statements that one type of battery are no good are just so much do - do. One day, Nixx batteries will be a thing of the past though and in fact, cell size choices are becoming more limited every day.

Hello Z06,
When you say "Factory settings" What do you mean? I have two Accu Cycle chargers. One which I have had from when they first came out and the other I just took out of the box, new.
There are only three choices of charging and discharging. Discharging is 250 mah the other is 500. charging rates are 25/50/125 and of course cell choice.
Am I missing something here?

I have used NiMH for almost 20 years without a failure and have charged them all on wall wart chargers. I can't see what the big deal is, charge them, check the voltage and fly. Why make a big deal out of something so simple.

I bought this type of charger not to long ago and will buy a newer one every 4 or 5 years just to keep up with them . I have lipos so old that when lipos first came out they only had one deans connector on them and no balancing plug..lol They still hold a charge and work fine . You have to take care of all your batterys and keep them stored correctly or they wont last you long . I fly with lipos and nicads or nimph for servos and recievers and let my lipos work feed all the motors only . Alot of batterys to keep track of but it is what it is and better than the old nitro days when if one motor dies on my brand new scratch built P-38 it was pain in the ars trying to get it back to the field in one piece.lol Take care of your batterys men .your planes will last longer ! joe
