Default HELP Newb issues

Hello everyone, I just bought an Arrma Granite BLS and today i took it out and it just sputtered on throttle and then the battery started smoking. The thing is 3 days old and worked fine up to this point.
I havent had a chance to buy a new charger yet so im using the lame thing they give you with the truck.
Any help would be appreciated.

PS i was into this about 20 years ago but so much has changed.

The NiMH battery cannot supply the power needed for the ESC, so it went up in smoke. It is very possible the ESC is ruined now, but you need to go LiPO.

Even though its the battery that came with it and ran fine the first 2 days?
Not questioning you just trying to learn. I was interested in going LIPO just didnt know it was a necessity.
Do you suggest any upgrades to the truck besides Lipo?
Thanks for reply!

Yeah. The first 2 days could have worn it down and on the last time you ran it, it gave out. With brushless, LiPO is a necessity these days. Maybe not for a very weak system, but that 35A setup draws a decent amount of current. As far as upgrades go, a T-Bone Racing front and rear bumper would be nice.

Is the 4wd worth it or is it just more things to go wrong? How about options like LCG?

LCG limits your ability to go some places if you will be running on rocky areas or areas with lots of dirt clumps. Also, you said you want 4x4, so why should you not get one?

Which one? I like HPI a lot, and almost got my hands on one. The big ol' DISCONTINUED stamp on the website (APACHE C1 4WD FLUX) turned me away from the particular model I was about to purchase.

Don't let a discontinued model get a person down...just check into parts and possible substitutions that are available. Just saying.

Yup, lol. Outta control would be another way to put it. :P

As far as the buggy goes, $300 is good for one if its in nice condition, considering new is $460. However, you will need to buy another 2S LiPO to be able to run it, or just buy a 4S LiPO.
