Default Voltage Question

I have an older glow powered monster truck with a Futaba 72Mhz system. The old NiCad is worn out. The charger came with an adapter lead that looks to fit a lipo battery pack. Will the receiver handle a 7.4V lipo battery? The old NiCad is a 5 cell 1.2V per cell. Thanks.

A fully charged 2S (7.4V) lipo battery delivers over 8 volts. A 5 cell NiCad delivers 6.0V. You might want stick with a new 5 cell NiCad.

The receiver may handle the higher voltage but the servos may not. You would also need a voltage regulator .
Plus DO NOT try and charge a LiPo pack with that charger. You WILL damage it or worse.

If you want to try lithium packs then get a Lithium Ferrite pack (LiFe). These packs have a lower voltage and will be closer to the old NiCd packs voltage. https://www.horizonhobby.com/reedy-1...battery-asc638

You will still need a new charger that can handle Lithium chemistry.

A 2S Life is a drop in replacement for a 5 cell Nixx battery. 2S lipo is too high for standard servos.

Consider replacing it with a Hydrimax NimH 6.0 volt 5-cell battery.

OMG, just buy some NiMH batteries. Everyone's gone nuts over lithium.

I reread what I wrote and had to laugh. Lituium is what is famously used to calm nutting people down.

Okay, Thanks Guys. I just wasn`t sure how robust the electronics were and I couldn`t find any info on voltage ranges. Like some devices will state on a data tag " 9 volts maximum" or something like that. I don`t mind getting a replacement NiMH or NiCad 6v. I just have a couple 2S 7.4 packs that are small and would fit in the batt/ rec box nicely.

If you have the 2s LiPo's and a LiPo charger then just get a BEC and wire it before the receiver and run them.

If you are in fact running your truck on 72 MHz, you are in violation of federal law.
If you are close to a flying field where fliers are on your 72 MHz frequency, you may be destroying airplanes that guys
spent lots of money and time building. You should be on 27 or 75 MHz.

Ah, okay. I bought the RTR Duratrax ThunderQuake back in 2003. I guess it must be 75Mhz. It`s the Futaba stuff that came with it.
