Default Sensing Peak on small battery packs

Hello all!

I just got a new Accu-Cycle Elite, and also just got a new 4.8V, 270mAh NiCad pack for a Gentle Lady glider.

With the peak detection set to the default 8mV, the Elite fails to sense the peak and the pack ends up timing out on the charge cycle.

My question is this: Is it normal for a small pack such as this to have a smaller peak drop? Or is it a problem with the Elite? I've charged and cycled several larger packs prior to this with absolutely no problems so far.

Lend me your wisdom, O Wise ones

Thanks,

Brian

Hmm, don't know any wise ones haha.

I think tiny cells like that should be about 5 mv per cell not 8

I'm kinda curious if your rate was high enough?

That's what I reset the memory preset to for this pack, 5mV. But haven't tried to cycle it again yet.

I've got the charge rate set at .5C, or 130mAh.... or did I back it down to 100mAh? It's either 1 or the other, my brain is about asleep. Can't remember. Either way, I figure it should be enough. The Elite only goes down to 50mAh, which is nearly double what the C/10 trickle charge rate would be for this pack.

A well defined peak is a function of the rate of temperature rise in the pack when it goes into overcharge. Smaller capacity packs don't exhibit as much of a temperature rise as larger ones for a given C rate of charge so their peaks are less defined. But since there is very little heating the amount of overcharge is less abusive in smaller packs. You win some, you lose some.
