Packs vs cases
I was checking the prices of single cell batteries and they are much cheaper than the ones in packs. I got interested in these two:
Sanyo NC4AA Hi-Capacity NiCd (4)

Venom 2400mAh AA Rechargeable Battery (4)

My plane uses 4 Futaba S3003 servos and my radio is a Futaba T4YBF (similar to the 4YF). My charger is a Piranha digital peak charger. I was wondering:
1 - Can I use these batteries in a 4 or 8 cell battery case on the plane the same way I use the packs?
2 - Can I charge them in the case, or do I have to charge each cell separately?
3 - Can I fast charge at C amps (after forming at C/10 of course)?
4 - Will the NiMH deliver enough amps or should I get the NiCd?

RE: Packs vs cases
Here's my answer:
NEVER, EVER, NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER even consider using a battery box that the individual cells just sit in under spring tension.
There's at least 16 places (on an 8 cell unit) that can have a failure due to vibration or corrosion.
Solder the individual cells together, using tabbed cells, join them into a pack using hot glue and be done with it.
Your mileage may vary..
