Switching DC Power Supply ??????
What does "switching DC power supply" mean. I'm looking at the Radio Shack 22-510, "25-Amp Swithcing DC Power Supply". They have a coupon for 50% off the retail price. The unit is on sale for $59.99 until 1/20/03

Switching DC Power Supply ??????
Switching Power Supply refers to the method by which the voltage is altered.
Traditional power supplies use a bulky, heavy, inefficient transformer to convert 110 VAC into 12 VAC, then rectify the signal and pass it through a capacitor to clean the output voltage.
Switching power supplies convert the 110 VAC into 110 VDC, then send it through a switching circuit to create 110 VAC at a higher frequency, where transformers are more efficient. This is then processed as before, but the transformers are smaller, lighter, and more efficient (less power lost to heat).
