12 Volt Battery Question
I have a Hangar 9 12 volt battery in my field box. You know the field box size. I somehow have seemed to burn out my charger. Can I charge that battery with a car 12 volt charger? It has a 10 amp setting (the low setting). It's that or head on over to the hobby shop.

12 Volt Battery Question
Is your car charger a CV charger? If it is, the 10A setting is a current limit. You'll probably never see that much current going to your flight box battery. The most mine ever draws is just over 4A, when the battery is really low. (7AH battery)
Try hooking an ammeter up in series. That should tell you whether your car battery charger is fine to use or not. You should see the current dropping off as the battery comes up.

12 Volt Battery Question
Hey 4cat: Don't you think pushing 4A into a 7A battery is a bit much. Sure it will put some power in it. Get hot and won't last to long. Just my $.02

12 Volt Battery Question
I'm not too worried about it. If'n it draws that much current it's only for a minute or so. I just set my power supply up to 13.8 and go. No probs so far.

12 Volt Battery Question
Yep. It sure would. With the money you save by not buying a new charger, you could get a multimeter.
Ruh-roh.. A sure sign of an RC addict. "Saving" money by not buying something means you can buy something else. :P

I have a tower hobbies 12 volt battery, and plugged it up to get a full charge. went to the flying field and my starter would not turn my saito 100 prop over. We did a voltmeter check and it says the battery was charge to 12.6 volts, but it did not have the ump to turn a prop. We used another field box and my starter worked fine from that one. should I do something different with this battery to regain the ump? the battery is only a few months old.

A 7 amphour gel cell should not be charged at more than 700ma if you want it to last. To high a charge rate or discharging below 11.9 volts (for a 6 cell battery) are quick ways to ruin it.
