Tenergy batteries any good?
I was thinking of the 4500's. I don't need anything super powerful or anything. I was just thinking, how long are these going to last until a cell dies or something like that? I've heard from people that have them that they're pretty good.

RE: Tenergy batteries any good?
Would charging a Tenergy 4200 at 4A damage it (heat up)? also, would it be a bad idea to charge it at 4A for the first and all charges? Thanks.

You mean get warm or at 4A is it going to get HOT and NOT warm. Can I just do trickle charge for the first few charges and then do 4A?

The very first charge should be 420 ma for 15 hrs. (or a rate and time that is close to those whose product is 150% of capacity)
420 x 15 = 6300 mah and it will just barely get warm. Any following charges can be 4 amps and it should get quite warm/hot (115-125º F)

Wait a minute..........I think I read that the Tenergy cells are zapped at the purchase. does this mean that 4A should be fine?

Then I guess I shouldn't have charged my 1500 NICD at 4A!
BTW, does anyone know how much all-battery charges for shipping?

RE: Tenergy batteries any good?
I tried the tenergy brand AA batteries with the intention of using them in my transmitter, receiver packs, and other household toys. They got me on the 24 pack deal. I did not see near the capacity that was on the label. They don't hold a charge very well when sitting on the shelf. I know nimh have a high self discharge but these seemed to discharge by themselves moreso than quality sanyo cells. Don't waste your money, invest in the hybrid nimh/alkaline type for low drain applications.

RE: Tenergy batteries any good?
What is a good C rating to use in a 4x4 buggy with a Mamba speedo and 3600kV motor?
I too purchased the individual 4500mah red Tenergy batts off ebay. So far, I cannot get them to work well.
In my 4WD brushless setup, they don''t get hot at all. In my brushed mod 2WD they got really hot. In both cases the speed was very slow. I think the problem is my charger. I''m just getting back into racing after about 7 years so I''m charging with my Novak Millenium. In NiMH mode, it only charges at 1.5 amps. I know, I know...it''s not enough, right? But if it charges all the way, aren''t the cells still getting all the voltage they need?
Good thread! Thanks guys!

RE: Tenergy batteries any good?
I have four of the Tenergy 3800. They were purchased when I started this hobby with my son 3 months ago. They barely charge to 3000 mah now. They were so much cheaper than other batteries, now I know why. I want to make a discharger to see if that helps, but I doubt it.
I am looking through these forums trying to figure out the best NiMH for the money.

Made up a pack of 4 2600ma MH cells using tab welder. Ran 4 cycles, charged using ACE HD500 variable rate charger at C/10 and Triton for discharging at 300ma to .9v. Capacity came in at 1700ma +/- 20ma. These batteries are rated 33% higher than actual capacity! Durability ... I wonder about that too!

RE: Tenergy batteries any good?
Good news: Tenergy sent me 4200 mAh replacement batteries for my 3800s that I had bought in February and had started acting funny.
Bad news: One of the new 4200 exploded the first time we used it. Two of the others didn't charge above 7 volts.
More bad news: One of the original 3800 melted this weekend during use.

RE: Tenergy batteries any good?
I have 4 of the older 3300's that came in a green pack and they are not too bad although they only hold about 2500-2700 mah. Actually they are pretty good for the price. (about $60 for 4 7.2v packs)
I also have 2 of the 3800's which are the blue ones and they SUCK! It's almost like running a 4 or 5 cell pack of regular batteries. I can't believe how weak they are! I don't even like to use them as practice/bashing packs because they make my truck so slow.

The four replacement batteries are running pretty good so far. They give good run time and have good power. Their voltage is staying pretty constant.

RE: Tenergy batteries any good?
I have bought some batteries from tenergy, I bought a 8 cell pack with a deans connector to bash with on my blackfoot, previously I had been using some powerizer 7 cells for this purpose. I too say that the blue cell 3800 tenergys pretty much stink, while they ran the truck at a higher top speed to be honest they don't have the punch or power that the 3300 7 cell powerizer cells had and they had tamiya connectors. The eight cell tenergy struggles to even make the truck wheely which is pretty sad. Now with all that being said, I only paid 15 bucks for the pack since it was on sale, and with a deans connector already on it you can hardly argue with the price. I don't regret buying it, they are fun cheap packs to keep around to bash with, or just have for spares but in no way shape or form would I want to depend on any in a racing situation or something. I haven't seen them on sale since I bought them and normal price I guess is 30 something bucks which I'd never pay. I also agree with the tenergy aa cell review, I got several of them, and while they work alright if you use them straight off the charger, they will pretty much go flat within a week, they discharge faster than any aa cells I have used in the past few years. They are great for using in the kid's toys etc but you can hang it up using them in something like a digital camera. Has anyone tried any of the newer powerizer higher capacity stick packs? I have been fairly pleased with the 3300's I got from there.

RE: Tenergy batteries any good?
I have an 8 cell 200 mah pack in my transmitter, and I'm lucky to hold 1500 mah after its charged.
Still better than the stock 600 pack, but only 75% of rated capacity. If I had paid decent money for it, I would not be happy, but it was a fair deal for the price.

RE: Tenergy batteries any good?
Right you get what you pay for, lipo is still out of reach of what I want to spend really, I didn't know they carried rx packs I'll have to look into that... I see on their site that their 8 cell 3800's are back on sale for 16.99, while the 6 cell 7.2 packs they are wanting 30 something bucks for. If I was better at making packs up, I would buy 3 of those 8 cell packs, and disassemble them and make 4 6 cell packs with better bars etc, it would be a cheap way to have several packs, but to be honest gp3300's can be found for a fairly good deal at a place or two, and I bet even old gp3300's are far superior cells to these 3800s' and possibly even their 4500's haha.
