Default NiMH battery capacity?

I have gotten a hold of quite few NiMH batteries from lap top battery packs. Some are A size and 2/3 A and some triple A size. Most of them do not list the miliamp size. The Toshiba's say 1700 in the pack and I assume that is what they are. However, there are others that have no markings at all. Is there is a way to figure out the capacity without frying them?

I would sure like to be able to use them since I have so many and the price was right, free.

Thanks for any input.

They almost have to be 1700 Mah. Charge them and discharge them with a known load (light bulb or something) Multiply the amps drawn by the time it takes and you can be sure.
