Default Exact Physical sizes of different brands AA cells

Does any one know the exact (within .05mm) size of the various AA cells? I just bought 4 Duracell AA 2650 mah NiMH hoping to put them in the Spectrum DX5e in place of the 4 AA alkalines. Oops, they do not fit as the Duracells are slightly larger; 5.04 cmX1.43 cm and will not fit in the battery compartment. Are the Eneloops smaller and will they fit? I'm having a hard time finding the physical sizes of the various brands on the web, at least not to the accuracy required to check for fit. Most specs just say AA size which is not an adequate definition in this case. An alkaline AA is about 4.83 cm X 1.4 cm. and just barely fits into the DX5e.

Very good question, Sanyo and GP are ones of the few that post specification.
I do not think their are any sub AAA only Sub C that Iam aware of.
I do know that the welding version are smaller by the button.
Please post any web that give good numbers. I know when I buy packs to tear down to glem the batts it hard to fiqure out if they are normal or the sub version. Sometimes I will not buy the pack because the sizes are to vauge. Or data given are with the shrink wrapping etc.

I know a guy just posted pics of the GP reckyo low discharge batteries compared to the eneloops, and they GP's were definately fatter. I know that is nothing exact, but they are def. bigger in dia. so I'd stay away from those for sure...

Here is what I own and the sizes.

1. Energizer 2500mah AA - 50.3mm x 14.1mm
2. Energizer 2200mah AA - 50.3mm x 14.1mm
3. GP industrial 1800mah AA - 49.7mm x 14.1mm
4. Powerizer 2250mah AA - 50.7mm x 14.2mm
5. Duracell 2650mah AA - 50.4mm x 14.2mm
6. Duracell 1500mah AA - 50.3mm x 14.1mm
7. no name china green cells (ebay) AA - 49.9mm x 14.05mm (these cells are hit and miss...)
8. will edit for the other cells that are not in front of me now

I measured all of the cells in my AA drawer that were not in use right now. Used a Mitutoyo digi cailper. I have maybe 3 other brands to add at a later date.

Thanks to all for the information. I am just surprised that Spectrum fell down so bad on the design of their battery box on the DX5e, you would think they would have made sure to accomodate any batteries that fell within spec on physical size.

Interesting discussion. It's not R/C but I have a Microsoft keyboard that Duracell AA's won't quite fit. Very annoying. Until now I didn't realize there was some slop in the size spec.

We should understand that most of the equipment where there is a fit problem was designed in China, Hong Kong, Korea etc. They probably measured some cells and that was what they designed the equipment to fit. No regard for standards, particularly American National Standards or JIS, or IEC for that matter. They kind of do their own thing in case no one has noticed. A primary cells tend to swell a tiny bit when they reach the end of life so prudent designers allow for this. Ask Maglite what happens when they didn't. [X(] Then you have the issue are the dimensions for bare cells or with label and oversleeve? Nothing is simple.

If you purchase any rechargeable batteries for your DX5e,make sure they fit properly, not too tight.
