Default Dynamite Passport lipo 6s balance charger

what is going on? the people at the LHS told me that this "balance charger" would charge my 6.6v 200mah LiFe battery. I'm pretty sure that this won't charge unless there's a balance lead ALSO.

Can anyone confirm this? Why doesn't it say on the box that it won't charge unless you have a balance lead? It just claims it's a charger on the back of the box. WHY??????

The only way to balance without a lead is manually and almost no-one does it. A balance charger does indeed need to have the battery's lead plugged into the charger if no balance lead is provided.

I have this charger and yes for lipo you need the balance plug plugged in to charge. As for life I dont own any so i cant say, it does have a selection button for charging them.

Uhoh, you really need the balance lead plugged in? to charge lipos or life? That's a bummer.

Just checked the manual and yes you have to plug in the balance tap from your battery for it to charge. does your pack not have a balance lead?

Nope, no balance lead. It's just a tiny 2c LiFe. I hope they will let me exchange it because it's their fault for telling me it would work. I don't know what I'm going to do if they don't let me.

Maybe they'll let you exchange it. It is the only one I've seen that requires a balance lead for a non-balancing charge. It seems you can charge w/out balancing , but they still want to monitor the individual cells. Another fix might be to install a center pin on your pack for balancing. It may be a great idea to check the cell balance anyways since it has never been checked or adjusted since new, right?

that is correct, how would I put a "center pin" on it? I bought the balance charger and battery at the same time, so that will be my only evidence proving it's their fault if it's a different person tomorrow. It does say no returns on the receipt for electronics. But why would they tell you no returns until AFTER you buy it on the receipt? shouldn't they have to warn you before you buy it? It doesn't say no exchanges though so that's my best bet at this point. I'll let you guys know tomorrow what happens.

Default RE: Dynamite Passport lipo 6s balance charger

alright now I have two more questions, this LiFe battery(6.6v 200mah) recommends charging at 1c instead of 2c to prolong its life. However with this new charger, the Onyx 230, when I try to charge it at 1c it says wrong voltage??? Also, the current should be set to 0.2 amps right, or should it be 0.1amps?

Thanks for your help RC Universe.

I'm not sure how it would charge w/out balancing , but if I understand the manual properly it will. If not, then what's the dif between regular charge and balance charge (both require the balance connector)

If there's no dif then it wouldn't be the first charger like that.

You sure your not looking at the ultra passport? and not the 6s passport? Here is the manual for the above charger [link=http://www.dynamiterc.com/ProdInfo/Files/DYN4066-Mnaual-v2.pdf]manual[/link]

I cant see how you can not balance charge, Mind you it takes no longer to charge than a non balancing charger.
