Default Balancer question. Help, please!

Recently I accidently shorted a three-cell lipo pack. The LHS guy and I opened up the pack and discovered that the connector to one of the cells (the one to which the black - negative - wire to theesc was connected) had burned out. He told me that I could just remove the bad cell and solder the black wire to the next cell. This worked. I ended up with a 2-cell, 1350 pack. It charged just fine and worked just fine with the esc and motor.

Now the problem.LHS guy told me to just clip the little black wire that goes from the bad cell to thebalance connector. This I did. The connector receives a red wire, a yellow wire, a white wire, and, of course, the now-missing black wire. When I plug the balance connector (now with just the red, yellow and white wires connected) into the TP610 three-cell plug, the charger says that there is nothing connected to the balancer. It looks to me as if I could just cut off the end of the battery balancer connector (where the black wire was) and it will fit into the 2-cell plug on the charger. Will this work?

BTW, yes, I did remember to reset the charger to 2-cell!

Iam quite ignorant concerning matters electric, so I don't want to try something that's going to ruin my (now) two-cell pack or mess up my charger. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks in advance.
Dave
