Jomar battery backer
 

With a Jomar battery backer, can I use a 5 cell 5000mah NIMH as primary and a 5 cell 1800 mah Nicad for back-up? Do both batteries have to be same type?

Seems when I turn on primary switch, the back-up turns on even with back-up switch physically in off position.

You should direct your question to EMS - Electronic Model Systems, the current owner/supplier
of Jomar products.
Re your question that turning on the primary battery switch also turns on the secondary,
even though the latter's switch is off, in a properly installation, that is impossible, off is off.
Possibly the switch is defective, or something is miswired. Let us know. ,
