Lithium cells in new Dremel
 

I was in Home Depot yesterday and noticed that Dremel is powering their new portable tool with lithium ion batteries. Now if power tool people like Dewalt could just follow suit, then we could see large scale use and the prices should drop and the amps should go up. Just can't wait for this to happen.

With laptops, cell phones, and video equipment all using Lithium, I doubt portable power tools will be much of a driver in the Lithium market. But, every little bit does help!

I think the difference is that laptops, cell and cordless phones and such use very low voltage and wattage setups. Power tools need a higher wattage setup that can be useful to us in RC applications. Still though, power tools are designed more to be "left on the charger" than having a really, really long usage time without a break or recharge

All is not lost in laptopland.
The small GWS IPS gearboxes could use GOOD LIFEPO4 cells. Real AAA__AA sizes. That would be great. What are the actual DREMEL sizes ? Are they loose or packaged like B & D PVX ?

Dewalt is already using Lithium-Ion and have been for the past year. They are using A123 cells which can be fast charged, have a very high discharge rate and do not burn.

I've been using the Makita Li-ion batts. for the past yr. with no problems. Normal lipo charger and charge in 35 to 40 mins. Need no balancers.
