If you are using the wall charger that comes with the radio, the lights do not change color. It should be fully charged by now.

that light is simply to indicate that the circuit is complete.. it doesnt go out when charging is complete... when I think there has been sufficient time..i turn the Tx on and check the voltage.. for me somewhere around 11.1 is the magic number.

Thats a bit goofy.

16 to 18 hrs for the initial charge is plenty.

A 'warm' battery is OK, a 'HOT' battery is not.

It is hard to overcharge with their trickle rate.

I'd think about investing a few bucks in a volt meter for you flight battery though.

Yea, the basic rule is: 16 - 18 hours for the first charge and anytime you left the radio on (We've all done it)

Aside from that, just put it on charge the night before you plan to fly

I have a question, Why don't they make a charger that will shut offor switch to a trickle chargewhen the battery is charged and balanced or do they? Like the battery tender for cars and bikes.

They do - They are just too expensive to include free with a radio

What is the name of the company tha makes a decent one? I would think it would be a good investment for a new person so they don't under charge or cook the battery.
Thanks

This little piece of equipment I have found hard to beat.[link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEYD4&P=0]Accu Cycle Elite [/link] Easy to use/program, reliable, comes with a power supply, and will charge two packs at a time (RX/TX).
I have another more advanced more costly charger that collects dust most of the time. [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXVZA8&P=0]Triton2 EQ[/link].

I will eventually need the triton more, as I upgrade batteries to A123.I am doing this slowly as extra cash comes around.

Go to Hobby King and look at the Turnigy chargers. They have all sizes and prices and do all chemistries. I have two of the cheaper ones. No problems so far.

They do. I like using the one below. Lights start blinking and it beeps when batteries are charged and goes into a trickle charge on its own. This is the most popular charger in my club and probably most others also. I'm sure others in here will disagree though.....as usual!

Here is where spending more than you anticipate will later pay off in droves!!!!

Get a GOOD multi-purpose charger...

I use a couple of these to deal with many different battery packs.

[link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXPYT8&P=ML]Click me![/link]

These charge everything from NiCD's through LiPo's ( though they do NOT handle LiFE packs... other equivalent chargers do that too! ).

You may THINK now it's overkill.... but that charger will handle almost anything you can throw at it... and it can test your packs, condition them, verify capacities and draw, etc.

Later as you move on to other things these chargers will keep up with your needs...

I've got the Venom charger....it is great. Comes with all the leads for radio, ni starter, tamiya, the whole bit...runs of 12 V or 120 AC

Don't worry about the 26 hours. I left mine plugged in on accident once for 3 weeks. The batteries were just warm..no big deal.
