I will get some video soon but its 110 degrees here today and iam only flying by my pool .lol I have a lot of water funfly,s i attend every year and a couple coming up soon. As i build a rc car 20 years ago i think you are making a good choice by going to planes. Cars are fun but planes can go 3-D and you will never get bored. Yea you might crash a couple here or there ,but after you get better you cant own enough . With planes getting cheaper all the time and free plans for foamy planes you will have a great hobby like i have for 35 years. Bood luck joe

i agree with the part about the rc cars. the planes are more fun. i used to be into cars, but then got bored of running up and down the yard, so i thought i would give planes a try, and it has been fun so far.

You mean for landing and take off?? Your going to be flying in the air, up above your head. Doesnt matter of you live in a trailer park or on a 300 acre ranch. Your not going to be close to the ground unless your landing or taking off.

Get a champ, order 6 batterys and a better (aka, faster) charger from HobbyPartz.com. Done.

Don't buy a plane. Start with as good as you can get simulator, even used.
Why?
1. You can fly every kind of plane you can load in.
2. You can crash over and over and never need any parts or to rebuild anything, just push the button and you have a new plane waiting to go.
3. You can fly rain or shine, cold, windy, dark, for 30 seconds or 30 minutes anytime you want.
4. You can learn to fly planes with all 4 channels of control... elevator, rudder, alierons and throttle.
5. You can learn to fly helicoptors too.

This list can go on and on, but I hope you can start to see my point.
Also I am an instructor in my club and know these things for a fact.
See you at the field!!

thats why i race rc cars, bashing by yourself is boring. flying by yourself on the other hand is much more fun then bashing a rc car.

i took the champ out in the wind last night, it was an adventure but i was able to fly and keep it near me. it was fun trying to keep it flying straight in a good breeze.

+1 a 3channel plane is so easy to fly, no need for a sim.

i would only think you need a simulator for the big balsa planes. these small foamies if you crash them and break something, get out the glue and glue it back on, or just get the part that broke if the damage is bad.

if you got the $$ then get a sim, it will help, especially when moving up to a 4 channel, but if $$ is tight just get the champ and have fun.

get some foam safe ca glue and some accelerator too, and some scotch double side tape, looks like regular scotch tape but it's double sided. thats how the wing is held on.

not in stock form, but you could install rods under it for the bands to attatch too. the double sided tape works well though.

Quite honestly, if you are given the option between a better quality aircraft and a sim, you should take the aircraft. A sim will only go so far in helping with orientation. It won't help with setting up the aircraft, properly maintaining it, or doing repairs. A better quality aircraft helps here. There are many cheap-and-cheerful models available, but many won't last, even with proper care. The Ember is a great first model, and will teach you far more than a simulated program will. Anyways, if you decide to get a larger 4 channel model, glow or electric, you will want to see an experienced instructor first, to enusure it is ready to go and to make the first few trim flights.

Good to see it's working out for you and happy flying!

I will probably get the champ, which is somewhat similar to the ember. Its just a tad bit faster...
