Saito 56 or 62
Hello,
I am looking to purchase a Saito four-stroke 56 or 62. I intend to placethe engine on a Sig Kadet Senior and a Sig Four Star 40. Any thoughts regarding which four-stroke would be the best for these airplanes?
Thank you,
James

RE: Saito 56 or 62
I had a kadet with a 46 fx 2 stroke flew great but always would have like to have a little more power , we had a club trainer with a 56 and they moved it up to a 70 four stroke, definate improvement, remember you can always pull back on throttle, and sometimes more power comes in handy for some situations my 2 cents worth go bigger if you can......

Definetly the .62! Thats why the left stick is a throttle control, you will decrease throttle when flying the Kadet senior and have it pegged when your flying the four star .40.

RE: Saito 56 or 62
In general, I'd go for whichever one is lighter and smaller. Either will be more than enough power to do anything you want your Kadet and FourStar to do. Lighter airplanes generally are better behaved airplanes and better survive bad landings. A smaller engine will be easier to install.
But since they are almost exactly the same weight and size, I'd go for the 62. The Kadet and Four Star do not need the more powerful engine, but it might be useful for another model in your future.

RE: Saito 56 or 62
G'day
I have both and I have had both in the Kadet Senior. I also have a Four Star 40 with a 62 in it.
My oldest Kadet Senior (I have several all kit built) had a 56 for a long time. It was perfect. Plenty of power but also very economical and happy to plod along at mid revs for long periods. I recently removed it to put in a scale Cessna and I replaced it with a 62 which dropped straight in. The 62 has a little more power and is also perfect in the Kadet.
I have had several Four Star 40s over the years. The first had an OS Surpass 48 and it was fine, then came one with a Super Tigre 40 which flew the plane well but wanted to fly it too fast for me. My latest has another Saito 62 which is more than enough for it but not too heavy. I suspect the Four Star 40 would fly quite well with my Saito 40a. Years ago a friend used to fly one with the old, and far less powerful, original Satio 40. It flew extremely well.
Either will do the job but as has been said, the 62, being slightly more powerful, gives room for further growth.
Enjoy your Saito. I love mine.

PS The model in my avatar is a Saito 100 powered Four Star 60. Wonderful combination.

RE: Saito 56 or 62
I agree with using ether of the engines. There is not much difference in them.
Small difference in weight and power, go with the .62
I have 8 saito's ( could be more ) and like them very much, lots of power for a 4 stroke.
The only thing I have ever had to do with a saito, is reset the valve clearance after break - in.

RE: Saito 56 or 62
I have both those planes as well. The Saito 65 was an awesome match for both. I imagine the 62 would be better, less weight, touch more power.
4*40- Saito 82, too much!!. Saito 45, too little but fun to fly. AX55 pretty good match, but the Saito 65 was better.
Senior, kit built- Saito 45, not enough. TT46 good match. Saito 65, perfect match. Used an APC 13x6 if memory serves.

RE: Saito 56 or 62
Flyers,
Thank you so much for the feedback. I decided to go with the Saito 62. My goal is to invest into a four-stroke that is not too big, but at the same time is large enough to use in 40 plus sized planes. Thanks again for your responses.
All the best,
James
