I tried to warn him
So a buddy of mine bought a Nexstar and decided that today would be a good day to not only maiden but also solo his new plane after I have told him several times to go to a club and hook up to a buddy box, but he was to antsy, so I agreed to go along anyway. I didn't pay for the plane so I wasn't going to be out anything. So we get to where he wants to fly and do all the pre flight checks to the best of our knowledge. We then proceed out to the middle of the grass field and start the engine, point the plane into the wind and take-off. He gets the plane off the ground and it begins to yaw to the left about as hard as it could. Ah hell just watch the video. Action starts at about 1:50 and after about 2:35 there is no need to continue watching.

yeah, that was not a good flight, plane was too fast for him. Amazed at how it missed the power lines, but even more amazed he chose to fly near big power lines like that.

Miracle it got through the powerlines.
Takes a certain kind of "spirit" to add a camera's weight and air resistance to a maiden flight. Usually those genes don't survive to reproduce.

Trim the rudder so it is centered and then roll the model on a flat surface. Adjust the wheel so that it rolls straight without changing the rudder center.
THEN take it to the airfield and start the motor.

You can't tell some people anything. I have a cousin like that. You couldn't let him near anything that required skill or thought to operate when we were kids. He went through about 20 bicycles before he got a driver's license and 3 car transmissions in one year after he started driving. He destroyed nearly everything good he ever got because he wouldn't listen to anybody and had to go wide open into everything he did. Perhaps your friend would be happier playing video games from now on so he doesn't destroy any public property or hurt someone?

I hope he doesn't give up....I also hope he doesn't try that again...Like you said a club and an instructor on the buddy box....
Remind him that when he goes to the local RC field and watches everyone fly that he is seeing a shared skill....There is a learning curve..
Take note the flight lasted longer than I thought it would...Good Luck

Do you think he will listen now since he crashed it?

Couldn't you have edited out the first two minutes of the video where all we see is the engine idling?
After that, it was hysterical! I can't believe he was lucky enough to fly the plane between the powerlines! That was great !
At least we all now know what it looks like from a pilots point of view when the plane hits the trees!
PRICELESS!!!
Thanks!

What type camera was he using? I think I counted .47 cents in his pocket.LOL.
I love the way you can hear the power line zip by b/c it's so close. hehe.
Is the plane rebuildable?

Great video to show someone who has the same 'great idea'. No experience, fly by yourself and you will crash.
The most expensive and slowest way to learn to fly and rc plane.
Get a simulator and then go to your local club. Someone there has a starter plane for a good price to sell.
If not, they know where to find one. Someone there will help you set it up and train you for free.
I have met nothing but great people at any club.
Cheap and easy learning and you'll move up quickly to more advanced planes. Only thing you won't learn is circling around power lines .

This guy is the Poster Boy for not teaching yourself to fly. It should be mandatory for people getting into the hobby to have to view this clip. Got a good laugh at someone too dumb to listen to friends who know better getting his wallet spanked. I bet 100 experienced pilots couldn't have flown through a similar obstacle course. Pure Dumb Luck

This is one staged event and it appears you have been suckered into believing the story. Why would you have an onboard video camera to record the event. Is RCUniverse turning into a UTube channel.

Why, you ask ? Well as we look at this world we presently live in, I can only refer back to the old statement of >>> MORE MONEY THAN BRAINS !!
