Erotic idling
I have been flying nitro engines for some 5 years now and have just purchased my first gasser. DLE30 is motor of choice and Iam installing it in a Super Decathlon. The motor starts good and runs without any problems except it idles so rough. I have tried tuning the low end in hops it will smooth out with no progress. Engine oil is mixed 40/1 and Iam running a 16x6 prop. I have flown the plane around 60 minutes total combined flights. Ihave noticed when going from a higher rpm back to an idle the motor slowsdown till it almost stalls thus I am keeping the idlesomewhat high so it don'tstall on approach. Will the engine smooth out with more run time? Is there some adjustment Iam missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. rj

Turn the LS needle in a bit at a time until this stops altogether and the engine maintains a consistent speed, then SLIGHTLY back the needle out about 1/16 of a turn.
That will cure the problem.

Thanks for the info. I will change the prop and do the adjustment. I can't explain the prop, that size is just stuck in my mind. You have to admit that title did get your attention. Simply, I can't spell. rj

Yes, changing your prop will work wonders. Additionally, the DLE engines a sold with a very substandard spark plug. Ensure you change it to an NGK CM-6 if you have not already.

This is why props are better than jets...never heard of an erotic jet......better to screw through the sky than suck and blow

I was expecting some videos.
But seriously, a guy at the club has had the same problems with his DLE30. He kept using the original spark plug until is cracked. He also had the engine quit in the air a few times. He kept tweaking the needles with limited success. He also blamed the fuel filters a couple of times. But in the end, he returned the needles to the factory settings and started the tuning process all over again. It got better, but he still has occassional issues with it. He is a good flyer and has a lot of experience with other engines, glow and gas. This one has him stumped.

Dang, Giant Scale beat me to it!! I have gotten a lot of the DLEs running nice and smooth for other people at the field just changing the Chinese No Name Mystery Plug with a real CM-6, makes a lot of difference. The plug that comes in the DLE is fun to pull and ground then roll over the engine and watch how it arcs all over the place except where it should.
