I think I made a good buy
Was at a swap meet today and I purchased a YS DZ140 4 stroke that looks like new. seems to have good compression and bearings appear to be smooth. I had to reach deep in my pockets and come up with 75 Yankee green backs. Never had a YS before so I thought I would take a chance. What do you think. Gray Beard is always on my case about having Magnums. So, Gene, this is not a Magnum[X(][X(]

Not a god deal. You need to pack it up and send it to me to teach your self a lesson to never do that again.
I have a nice Pitts S2a that would just love to have that as a power plant.
So, you will need a nice big plane, 6 to 10 really good servos, dual Rx's, dual batteries, all new stuff. I will volunteer to sacrifice my self to help you out. I will save yo all of that money, time, effort you will need to put in.
I love my YS 63.. When you get it mounted and tuned, you have a fire breathing dragon on your hands. Drinks fuel like it is lemon aid, goes through gallons of it. But the grin you get is well worth it.
Here is a listing for the FZ.

I think the Lancair would be a nice all around plane for this engine.
Buzz.

Total hunk of crap!!! The seller was sucker shopping and found you!! Only one I have had is the 140 sport. You beat my best price for a used YS other then the ones people have given me, last year I paid $100.00 for a tried to use once 1.10 FZ. That one scooterinvegas put me onto one day. He was in Nice Twice when the guy brought it in to sell and he phoned me. My buddy bought it and it was put into my plane to test run when I discovered it was brand new and not even broken in yet. He needed a .91 OS so he has one of mine and I have his YS still. So, nothing out of my pocket so I figure I still have you beat. I will look up the DZ. I have never had one that I recall.
You did real good!!!!!!! Go into the YS support and you will find any answers to your questions about it.
It's sure not a magnum!!!!!!!!!!! The 1.40 sport impressed the heck out of me and from what I recall the DZ was the high performance engine used in pattern these days. Biggest one I have in use at the moment is the 1.20s and a couple of the 1.10s.

Well Gene, how well did you do?? I looked it up in my 2004 Central Hobbies catalog and it was costing folks, ready for this?? $667.87 back then. And I was correct, I have never had one of the DZs. Your's is rated at 2K to 11K rpm range. The Sport model I had was only $438.97 back then and it was nothing more then an FZ, I know nothing about the DZ.

Looks brand new!! Like the guys said, the challenge is not that it will be a great engine. The challenge is to put it in a worthy plane (and the cost of course).

Gene has the perfect set of plans for the perfect plane for it. The Howard Pete calls for a 1.40 and the YS is the perfect match for it. With a custom home made header it would even sound perfect. Just a thought though, I wouldn't really know if Gene would like that or not?
