Best way to transport plane
I have a trainer 60 size that I need to transport to the local flying field. It's 40 minute drive at 70mph speed limit through the country. I have a '06 dodge ram pickup with shortbed. Wing and 3 year old son don't cohabitate well in back seat. What is best way to carry plane in bed of truck?

My brother made this for me. With little bungees holding everything down it rides fine in the bed of my truck. My truck has a 6.5 foot bed and total length of the carrier is just over 6 feet

Bill,
I have a fiberglass tonneau now but made quite a few trips, 45 miles each way, with this in the open bed.

I built a similar contraption to fit my truck bed. Only my wings are on the bottom with the fuse up top. The tail is up against the back window with the nose near the tailgate. I carry 3 planes at a time. I go down the interstate at normal speeds with no problem. I actually have velcro straps permanantly attached to my carrier. I get alot of stares driving down the road with a 60 size trainer, a Tiger 60, and a P-51 for all to see.

I have a toolbox mounted behind my cab but have a long bed.. That would push my plane farther back from the rear window.. I wonder if the wind would be too much being farther back like that? I would lose the protection of the cab forcing the wind up and away from the plane...?

You really need to get your priorities right!!! Plane in the cab and kid in the bed of the truck. At 3 they are mostly cartilage anyway. . Just kidding.
