Why bother you can't change the mixture in flight, nor can you open cowl flaps. You can do the same thing with a good temp gun as soon as you land. But if you must I'd say check temps on several flight get an average and add 10 % in cruise perhaps 5 % at takeoff power

Still you think there should be a manual stating what temperature a motor should run at so that if it is running to hot you can fix the problem maybe by opening the cowl up ect or what is the reason for having telemetry, temp, surely it's not for a warning that the motor is to hot to handle lol .

Temp will change with the weather, altitude and power settings even the fuel you use.
on full scale airplanes you can do things to change the temp but we can't. So you have the info for temp on a hot humid day in 6 months when it's cool and dense air that data will change.
dont get too wrapped around the axel over temp

izzy- I get what your saying. Check your normal temp after you land maybe 5 times and set it at +10-15 degrees.
Then if you get a warning land the plane and check it. If all is normal bump up the warning.
If you do this in the summer then don't worry about cooler times. But if you set it on a 40 deg. day then expect to raise it when it is 80-90.
It is good to have the warning in case something weird happens. Better safe than sorry.

Good Luck

What's the reason for having a temperature telemetry unit?

To give the radio company another gizmo to sell. I suppose I could see the value for guys setting up a plane in a tight cowled installation. You could check to see if your cooling air is adequate by watching to see if the temps remain constant throughout the flight. And of course, if you have a deadstick you can see if it was caused by heat and if so how much. But really, in the vast majority of cases it's just not a piece of information you need. Telemetry is a great thing don't get me wrong. I love the idea of having an alarm for receiver voltage and an engine RPM sensor that will let you dial in the tuning down to one click on the HSN by checking the in air RPM (even that is questionable, but there aren't many who would say the extra power you get isn't worth something). But engine temp is one of those things that lets you know there is a problem by deadsticking. It would be kinda like having an alarm that tells you that you ran out of gas.
