Default radio question

I am not sure I am in the right forum, but here goes...

I happen to have a couple of older (72mhz) JR transmitters and have used them together with a buddy cord for training. I now have a newer 2.4ghz Spektrum radio (DX5e). It appears that the Spektrum radio has the same connector for a "buddy" cord that the JR radios use. Are these radios compatible with the JR radios for use in training?

Any guidance will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

If my memory is correct, I buddy boxed a student this past summer with his Spectrum DX5 and my JR XF421 72MHz. He supplied the cord.

Is the cord different in some way? I hooked the two radios together and held the trainer switch on the DX5 and control of the plane was NOT passed to the other radio...in fact the DX5 still had control. Is it possible that the DX5 is broken? I did buy it used....

The DX5 and the 72 Mhz radios have some differences. I don't know all that stuff, so hitch up to the Radio Forum and find out. Or pick up the telephone and call Horizon Hobby. They are the mother of the JR and the Spectrum. 1 800 338 4639

I do recall that the 72 Mhz radio needs to be set to PPM and NOT PCM, but YES they should work together...
both radios need a working battery (but the 'slave' TX remains turned OFF)

Yup they work fine.

As Jim mentioned the slave must be turned off, set to PPM mode and have the training functions enabled.
