Been "camping" in my friend's house while I sorted out a French Bank account. I should have done it long before I sold the house but it's easy to be wise with hindsight. I had been warned of the complexity of French bureaucracy but to be fair, it was not all their fault.
I leave for France on Monday.

The event was quite pleasant and was enjojed by all but I had problems with the quiet.
Last year we were in a bad drought our lakes were very low rationing was the norm.........Well we just got seven inches of rain in one hour, the ground was already soaked to the bone from previous rains so all the water from this rain just floated on by, lotsa flooding, It's water feast or famine.
I have been trying to get our swapmeet fired up again, I am afraid the cost maybe prohibitive, one building rented for $950 a day and at this point we can't afford that. getting a building with tables is expensive. so the turn out has to be good to recoup our expense, and in the past years it has been meager. maybe with the slight improvement in our economy it will be better this year.

The Arizona Model Aviators in Apache Junction used to have an Auction/Swap and paid to have it in doors. Well now the have it on a Saturday Morning twice a year at the Field with a rain date of the next Saturday. Saves lots of money. Besides they get 10% of the sale paid by the seller. Last auction took 5 hours and sold about 30 or 40% of the items presented. Auctions are great bargains, U'ed be surprised how cheaply some guys lt things go for.

For nostalgia I am building a new Ambroid Charger. In 1964 I was 19 and in the Air Force in electronics tech school at Keesler AFB Mississippi. I got started in R/C. I built a Control air Mule single channel transmitter kit $19.95. Had to take it to some one with a second class technician license to have it certified to operate on citizens band 26.995mh. And send off $5.00 for the FCC citizens band license. Things have changed a bit. First I built a Control air 5 relay less receiver kit $3.95. I built a Mini Mambo airplane power a Cox Baby Bee and a Bonner S/N escapement. If flew just great. The S/N escapement gives opposite rudder each time you key the transmitter. Actually that is real easy to fly because there is no left or right you always know it will go the opposite way it went last time. Then I was encouraged to build a more advanced airplane. I got a Charger kit. I powered it with an O.S.15. I got the only Royal Products Servos that I ever saw. I had to build a Control Air 4 receiver it had a box and a relay. The servos were wired key the transmitter was right rudder, click the key and hold for left rudder and click 3 times for the next of 3 throttle positions. Now I had to learn to fly with left and right, I pranged it a few times but it was a tough bird and there was little damage. Eventually I mastered it. I was asked to the Air Training Command model airplane contest I won 3rd place in rudder only and there were a lot of other entrants. That is the only contest I have ever participated in.

Nice plane and start of build, Joe. Got a single channel kit about same size and vintage that I might build down the road, The John Zaic designed http://www.outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=5612 46" span RC Aero Star. It is an odd swept back high wing cabin job. It is odd enough that it's on my bucket list, fly on rudder only with throttle.

Beautiful work, Joe. I like that wing with the webbing - almost exactly the same construction type as my new Stratus. Those fuse sides are truly classic too. Gonna be a great plane.

If my system stays on line I may get to respond.
Thanks for the swapmeet idea's I will check them out. We have a location at one of the schools and it is very nice! but one has to keep a eye out.
Joe
it's good to see someone building something, Ive seen that bird in the past and it should be a fun flying bird especially with modern r/c gear....your looking good!

My younger brother had the Cox "Red Baron" bi-plane, .10 engine(?), I used to spend hours just messing with the engine. My first, and only, glider was made of styro-foam and launched with a sling shot, I remember it being pretty big. We delved into the area of rocketry with rockets propelled by compressed water. Too simple for kids of today, but more than my father had.

Those water rockets were a lot of fun. I had one, a Redstone with Mercury capsule and parachute. Would play with it for hours. The highest flying were smaller with clear yellow nose and red body and fins.

Well nuts, Tonight after supper I crashed Yellow Bird. I haven't been flying every day like a have been in the past. The video showed my clumsiness not the smoothness I usually have. Dumb I like to do a roll right after take off I did 3 earlier but they weren't as smooth as I would like. So I tried to smooth it out and got my thumbs tangled up. I have been flying that one since 2008 It has always been ready to go I miss it all ready. It apparently didn't heart my engine or radio stuff so I expect I will build Yellow Bird 3 just take some time.

We can all get a bit blase about our flying when we get a bit more experienced. I was staying with an old aeromodelling friend in the Loire Valley a few days ago. He is rather a nervous man and a very nervous flyer however, his flying has come on a bit over the last few years through the use of diposable little electric foamies rather than risk the beautiful i/c vintage models which are his pride and joy. I had come over to France with some of my furniture in an old van so there was no room in the van for any proper models so I opted to take a couple of foamies, one of which, an Acrowot, I had never flown before.
While my friend prepared his Majestic Major and tried to start his Laser 61, I shoved a Lipo into the Acrowot and took off. It required a fair bit of trimming but it was soon flying nicely and I managed a fair landing. My friend had still not got his engine running so I loaded in a second LiPo and took off again. This time I put the model through its paces, making it do every manoeuvre I am capable of doing but when I brought it ino land I slowed it up too much and it cartwheeled into the runway from a low altitude. There was no apparent damage so I took off again. This time the model took off, executed a superb roll and smashed into the ground breaking the fuselage in two places.
Subsequent examination revealed that the aileron servo had become disconnected in the previous "arrival." If I had checked my controls before taking off for the third time, AS YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO, I would have noticed that they were not working and would not have attempted to fly.
By now my friend had started his engine and managed two uneventful flights with his model, ok his first landing ended up in a ditch but it did no damage to the model, whereas I, the experienced and qualified instructor, was left to epoxy my fuselage back together!
P.S. As I am now living in the middle of France, would some IT-knowledgeable aeromodeller indicate how to change the "Location" section of my avatar. If that's what it is!
