OH, man!! That makes me feel SOOOOO much better about my own situation. 24 years ago we started a Christmas Village for the buffet - "just a small one, something simple that'll look nice". Yeah, that's what she said. Fast forward; it now covers 3/4 of the dining room, averages 4.5' deep, has over 150 buildings and well over 300 people doing various things, plus the trees, bushes, lights, etc etc etc.

Yeah, something simple.

BUT STILL FUN TO SET UP!

How about flying control line into the side of our brick home at age 12 in the 50's. Took a step forward and smack, impressive crash. Or wrecking the control line airplane my mother built because she was tired of my dad, brother and I were always in the basement. Some pretty fond memories.

A "friend" flying a u control in a pasture killed a horse when the plane, fitted with a sharp nosed Froom spinner, hit it in the neck. We didn't fly there anymore!

What did the horse cost you?

I have been reconnecting with an old building buddy, he is a Brit inretired and living with his Tai wife in Bangkok. He sent me some pictures of his most recent projects. He has been know to have a design printed in UK magazines from time to time. Attached are some photos of his most recent projects, the far right picture, a two seater Albatross was published in 2012 and I have a word file if anyone cares t read it just PM your email address and I'll send it.

Not my plane, not my horse, no longer my field. My "friend" did not fly much for a long time after that.

Hello everyone!

Been busy with life and other trivial things and have had little time to butcher much balsa.

it is pleasant to see what others have built/flown those ww1 birds in post 3030 are real nice and very realistic. althouigh I am not a ww1 model builder they are cool looking to me!

model trains were mentioned.......I at one time had so many I was forced to give them away only to find some years later they were collector items.

All of them were given me by the owners of the hobby shop were I worked for a time, upon moving to a new location I got to disassemble the railroad display and take it home, it was quite a big display the foot locker in my shop contains several pieces of that display, been stored away since 1956.

my favorite piece is a turntable that would rotate to a specific track and permit a locomotive to enter then rotate it to another track and send it on it's way, we had a lot of automatic stuff because the importer stored his stuff in our shop.

well I will bump it to, to much family things going on, hear in fly overland, and then a trip to Ca to see my bro great fun, but now it is time to start looking at getting things ready for the old man that brings cold and snow as the leaves are already turning.
Still trying to put in about an hr a day on my current build and that makes it go sloooow a semi scale 1/4 scale super cub bashed from a balsa J-3 KIT

Cheers Bob T

Well, one way to look at it is maybe everybody has been out using up some good flying weather - I think that might be part of it. Some other threads have been slow lately, too. Not to worry : )

Added a couple of photos from the Nid-Hudson RC Society's 50th Annual Jamboree at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome from a couple of weekends ago.

I can relate the last few weeks the only wood butchering I have done was in Cedar, I have been replacing fencing some of it dates back to when the house was built in 1964 so it down't owe me a thing. I keep hoping an airplane will get a turn next weekend.

just dropped in to say hello

It appears life has been keeping everyone busy. the other day my monitor went blank so My thought is to tear it down and look for defective components, well I found nothing and reassembled it and it worked. probably just a loose or corroded cable ...I am using it now!

It's back to the honeydo's ..................

I resemble your comment on the honey dos Donny! I have found a little time to follow a Carolina Custom Kits Cessna 337 Skymaster build over on RCG. It is really coming together nice and the build on the wings resembles my Top Flite Cessna 182. Fuselage has a lot of alignment tabs to get it built straight and true.

Happened to me. I read up and found likely the electrolytic capacitors were bad. It even showed where the typical bad ones would be. But, I priced that a new and wider one would be cheaper, and a lot easier, so i bought a new ACER.. Worked well for me. Good luck with yours.

My Magnavox HD TV went out on my one day while watching it, had sound, but no picture. I did some googlinginging and found one test is if I shine a flashlight at an angle on the screen I should see the picture, sure enough I could. Turned out the inverter board is bad. No parts available anywhere. Welcome to the toss and replace world. Used to be you called a tv repair man and he would be able to come out and repair the set, today, you toss it in the trash and buy a new one since repairing the old one would cost more, IF you could find the parts.

Now I have a bigger set with more features for HALF of what I paid for the other one.

I remember when you could take the tubes out of the TV yourself and then test them at the drug store and they had replacements in a cabinet underneath the tester. Gosh I'm OLD!

Yup! Same thing happened to me about 6 months ago. My new 24" ACER is even better than the original DELL.

Love it!!

Speaking of tubes, I remember building several kit radios in high school: Filmore compact 5 tube AM superheterodyne table radio, Graymark 3 tube AM broadcast and 80 meter to 15 meter short wave regenerative radio used 5 different hand wired plug in octal socket coils to change bands and long wire antenna. Still remember the tubes, the 3 were 35W4 rectifier in the power supply circuit, 12AU7 medium mu twin triode preamp, 50C5 pentode final amp to output transformer and 4" speaker. Building and getting them to work was a lot of fun. Last was a 5 tube Graymark superheterodyne AM and short wave receiver. Also helped my father assemble a kit tube tester for the high school shop, he was the electric shop teacher. All point-to-point hand wired, there was oodles of wires in puppy.

I'd hate to think what airport homeland security would think these days if my carry bag had a home made 2 transistor radio in a home made case in my carry bag.

Oh I remember those days well. I had started taking a home course for TV and VCR repair. Somewhere I still have the books. There was a TV store a few blocks from me where I would get parts from.

""TEL AVIV, Israel - The Israelis are developing an
airport security device that eliminates the privacy concerns
that come with full-body scanners. It's an armored booth you step into that will not X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device"... (or strange looking radio device- my added)..."you may have on your person.
Israel sees this as a win-win situation for everyone, with
none of this crap about racial profiling. It will also eliminate the costs of long and expensive trials.
You're in the airport terminal and you hear a muffled
explosion. Shortly thereafter, an announcement: "Attention to all standby passengers, El Al is pleased to announce a seat available on flight 670 to London
Shalom!"
BRILLIANT""

OK! I try to be a good husband and attempt to wash the motorhome it was a beautiful day BUT!

today I am so sore I can barely move. My eyes are puffed and watering and I have a headcold that has me sneezing my brains out. today is a real nice day but I am afraid to go outside. I still need to finish the motorhome. I think I will pay to have it done.

You know I haven't a clue when electronics is involved but I can solder quite well, I have the book (electronics for dummies) and can hardly understand it, but tearing into electronics fascinates me to no end. I even disassembeled my key board and washed it and it looks new now.

The king kobra's in my shop are slowly coming along I need fuel tanks and A canopy to finish mine otherwise short of sanding it's complete. pics coning soon.
