Question How long does your LT-40 fly

How long can you guys fly it on 1 tank of fuel? I get about 35 mins on 1/2 throttle with a few higher speed rolls or loops. It suprised me, I thought I'd get about 20 minutes max. I have the OS 46, and I belive it's the fx not sure though. Anyways, I kinda feel bad for my instructor cause he just has to stand there and watch... And yet he always makes me fill that tank all the way up. Do I have a giant fuel tank or is this normal?

There are 4 useless things in aviation....1 altitude above you 2. Runway behind you 3 fuel in the fuel jug. 4 airspeed you don't have.
Fill your tank but land before you run out. On approach and dead stick, your kinda limited.
Start flying larger models and you're going to want and need throttle on approach

I would be really curious as to what size tank you have in that LT 40. You must be getting somewhere in the neighborhood of 3.5 to 4 minutes per ounce of fuel. Amazing.

A half hour with an 8 oz tank is easy doing loops and rolls, just takes energy management. For instance, you have to dive into a loop. But I have done an hour at a power setting so low that turns had to be very shallow to avoid losing altitude.

I had one that lasted 11 years of constant training each summer. Never bothered to time a flight. but they will stay up for quite a while.

krokodyl- I have an LT 40, pretty much same as urs W/ OS46FX, and i like to fly for longer periods of time than most of my other flying buddies. I have a 16oz fuel tank in mine, and will fly for 40-45 min, usually just cruising at 1/4- 1/3 throttle. I can do a bunch of loops and rolls, and still have a few oz of fuel when i land, so ur flight times, much like mine, are about right on. Dean

If your field limits the amount of planes in the air at one time, and if there are other pilots waiting to fly, going 40 to 45 mins is excessive.
If on the other hand there are less pilots than the limit or your alone then fly fly fly

Yeah, our field has student nights, and usually there is no more than two or 3 students there. So i usually go through the whole tank. Once Im able to go solo, then I won't use the whole tank, because I wouldn't go to the student nights very often.

Mine gets 14 with my OS 52, but then again, whats this throttle thing you speak of? My stick goes from bottom, to top and stays there the whole flight! If I were to putt around a 1/4 throttle I might get 20 or more, but thats no fun with my LT.

Throttle management will become a way of life for you. Bigger aircraft will require it. Gone will be the days of chopping Power to idle on the down leg and gliding into the landing.
even now flying to dead stick isn't wise. Once you're dead stick you have pretty well limited you options.

Yep, my Something Extra is just like that, have to keep power on all the way to the ground. My LT though, I have to force it down. Flew today first time this year, and it took a few attempts at landing the SE without bouncing it, but the last 5 landings were smooth as silk. Can't say the same for the LT-40 though, it just comes in hot, unless I dead stick. It's like the Cub, a little touch up and its climbing. Problem is I have a short runway with a loaded flatbed at one end, so unless I can drop it on the numbers, I have to go around. Hoping they clean up the right end of the runway, or it will be an interesting year.

kro.... This a fact... the longer you fly,,the worse your fly'n gets.... I have kept all my flights about 3-4 min...Now,,,,,, you can think I'm full of it or not,,but try this... at 3 min,,,shoot for a landing,,,Bet if you have any time on the sticks..your landing will look great... then fly for 15 min,,,and land again...it won't look to great,,,,now wanna push it?? fly for 25 min,,and then land..I would be willing to bet my whole paycheck for the year,,it will suck... bouncing and or just a good ol fashion hard landing...maybe ripping the gear out....

WHY???

As a profesional shooter and teacher of flight.. your eyes are taking a beating ALL during the flight.. "3D pilots" are really impacted on this,, your eyes focus out- in out- in and so on and so on..the more they do this,,the more energy your body has to produce... One of the hardest things to do to your body is flex the eyes... (lots of energy) thus..making it harder to control the plane at your finest... 3-4 min,,and take a break..your fly'n will love ya for it....

or not......

Cub lover
Have to disagree with you. Go to an IMAC event and watch people land after flying their known sequence.

I too disagree, was flying yesterday, and my landings were getting better the longer I flew. My T-Clips can stay up an hour before it will run low on fuel, I get bored with it after 20 minutes and do some touch n go's after that andn then do perfect 3 point landings. I can't take it off from a dead stop worth a dammm, but I can sure land it pretty.

PS................ The reason you get drowsy while driving,, is because your eyes take a huge strain... but again.... What do I know....??

Just because you have limitations, do not assume that everyone suffers the same fate.

Cub you said it's a fact that the longer you fly ......
keep your flights to 3 to 4 minutes.......I fly longer than 3 to 4 minutes every time I fly and I land pretty well.
at an IMAC event you fly 10 maneuvers a sequence 2 sequences a flight plus taking off, orbiting while the pilot in front of you finishes, then landing as quick as possible when you finish. If it takes a minute to due a maneuver that's at least 20 minutes. We all land pretty well.
The last competition I went to, with with Friday as a practice day, there was probably a couple hundred flights except for two crashes all the landings were good.
Of the crashes one was on landing. The other was inadvertent speed brake deployment on the downwind into a tree.

You get tired driving because your comfortable, and there's this nice vibration, you can't move much.
I've driven 22hrs stopping only to grab a to bite to eat. Empty the bladder when the tank needed filling.
Did I get tired sure but it took longer than a couple of hours.
watching TV must be exhausting.
There is fact and there is opinion

I have noticed it is not a good idea to keep a student pilot up too long. Some kind of fatigue sets in. How long? When they are not getting better, time to come down and take a break.

For me, I'll do touch and goes for 20 minutes and I'm generally improving during that time.
