Hello everyone, I am just getting back into the hobby after being away from it for over 10 years. The last time I flew RC planes, I was still using 72 Hz FM radio and now I'm hearing about digital bind and fly. I recently bought the kit from Herr engineering called The Starlite. I would like to know what motor, ESC, battery, Etc you all recommend. I would also like to know what receiver would be appropriate for this model using the Taranis transmitter that I recently bought. Thanks

Usually the manufacturer's recommendations are good. What does Herr say should be used?
As for receivers, just pick one with enough channels.

that's a good point. The manufacturer says

- Wes-technik 5-2.4 motor & 8:1 drive system
- Wes-technik 23/12 cm carbon fiber prop
- Sky Hooks & Rigging RX72-HYB receiver with built in BEC/ESC
- 7 Cell 50 50 mAh NiCd pack

when I look all of these up, they seem to come from a Canadian company? I was trying to look for something here in the States that was easier to purchase because their website seems not so user-friendly. Sorry, I should have mentioned that earlier in my original post

Those components are pretty obsolete now. The good news is you can get brushless motors and lipo batteries that will be both lighter and more powerful than the spec'ed components. If you can find out the RPM that power system was meant to turn the recommended prop, you'll be able to get a brushless equivalent by using the Kv rating. If you can't get that, it's simple enough to figure up your plane's weight and go by wattage to turn the recommended prop. 75 watts per pound will fly scalelike, or 100 will do aerobatics with good vertical performance in most planes.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I will look further into them. I am not savvy with electrics and learning as I go. I figured the items called out on the Herr kit were outdated as the website from Wes-technik looked old
