Would an area the size of a football field big enough to fly a Nexstar around on? This would be AFTER I learn to fly from an instructor ofcourse. I have access to a field this size, way out in the country.

Our airfield is about the siza of a football field. BUT, we fly over other farmlands where there are no buildings, etc. Out field is basically all grass runway. Remember, the sky is infinite, it's what you land and take off on that counts.

Given enough flyying skill, and accomplished pilot could probably fly from a tennis court .... but it is the area around the field that counts.

the field is prolly 300 yards long, and 200 yards wide, trees surrounding 3 sides of it, and a cornfield on one end of the 300 yard end.

I don't think its big enuff.

The nice guy at my other LHS told me that a football field wasnt emuff especially even for a soloed beginner.

He was kinda kidding but I still believe that A small field is not da best.

If the neighbors don't mind you flying over/or landing on there property in case of an accident,then a football field is plenty big.

i fly in my front yard i fly funtana spad 3d midwest trainer the bigest plane so far is my ultra stick 120 its 276 by about 360 i fly over the house

so i would say it would be fine if you can land on it you can fly on it

How much clean area do you actually have for takeoff and landing? In your first post you mention the size of a football field, that would be 300 feet, not really enough. Later you said 300 yards, that would be plenty. Keep in mind that the takeoff/landing area needs to be fairly smooth with the grass cut.

its about 300yds x 100yds, and very well kept. No neighbors to worry about, only trees (woodlands surrounding and cornfield on one end).

Only obsticle is a german sheapard that will eat anything... have to chain him up.

I will know more about the size after I get my first plane, and learn to fly it. My bro in laws place is only 5 miles from me, but nearest flying park is 30 miles.

Yes you should be ok. Just remember to fly above the tree level untill you come in to land. It may be a little tight coming in. You should be good to about a 60 sized airplane.

we have a 20x250ft hard surface off a dirt parking lot each end is open but both sides have trees all I can say is a small field will make you a better pilot cause you have to land on the spot

TO PropHanger : If you were me and I tried that near the house that my parents are gonna get, and by chance the window bulges out and grabs your plane, I'm dead!!!!!

Also, if it hits the house 'n' it makes a dent in the siding, I'll be more dead than a ten million year asteroid.

i have not hit the house yet but i do have a hole the size of a airmaldila in my building i thinking of going out friday while my moms gone and touching the pattys tail on the roof i live were theres not much people around here i had a 85 foot double motocross jump over the road law did not like me hitting it when cars were going by got some looks and one finger waves to thing i can get patty down in the drive way hope i can [8D]

o yea dents pop out of sideing very good my sister lives up by were my dad lives hit here house hard it poped right out

just be sure you know when every body comes home so you can look innocent i need to get someone from the club to video it have some close calls

I also have a NexSTAR & a small flying field...but i always fly with the speed brakes on...thus giving me more time to react and ofcourse Take It Easy. (works every time)!

Be careful of those trees when on approach commin over them! I have good depth perception, but find it challenging when having to cross a tree line before descending further. 300 yards is nice, thats 3 football fields!

Me and my son-in-law have permission to mow a spot in the middle of a 50-60 acre hay field. We mowed a 400 foot by about 70 foot spot. The closest tree is a large oak at the edge of some planted pines at least two football fields from our base leg, and I still found a way to wack it with the wing of my trainer. Even with all that open space, it seems difficult at times to line up on that 70 ft wide runway. A football field is wider than 70ft I think but you will be surprised how fast you can eat up 300 ft on landing. Now, my QHOR needs only a fraction of that in fact I landed it cross ways of the runway once.
