You are correct - the question was "What power starter is easier to use the
ones that have the battery clips or the panel-ready banana plugs? ", not what works better.

Like most things, this is a trade-off. Cost vs convience vs power vs weight. Actually, the BEST and EASIEST way to go is with a dedicated starter battery. Go to WalMart and buy a lawn tractor battery - $20 for the best one they have - and a $7 plastic marine battery box. Use the clamps and go direct or replace the clamps with lug rings and bolt the cables right on! This setup has several advantages:
1. Lots more starting power.
2. Allows your starter to be on the opposite side of the prop from your power panel without wiring getting in the way. This is really nice if you use the power panel to drive the glow plug. (and if you don't, why have a panel?)
3. If your box battery dies, you can still pump fuel.
4. You can start a whole lot of motors between charges.
5. Lots of power for field chargers.
6. An automobile charger will charge it fine.
7. You can jumpstart a car if you need to. (yup - done that too!)

Disadvantages:
1. costs about $30.
2. Another thing to load and maintain.

If all you are flying is .40-sized stuff, you can usually get by with a gel-cell, power panel and plugs. If you start flying bigger and especially 4 strokes, remember the above advice!

I still think the total protable starter/battery is best. Less wires cables to interfere with starting the plane. Safer Simpler. Having said that, the power panel from Hangar9 that I have comes with a bunch of banana clips. Just cut off the the clips the starter came with and solder on the new ones.

We had an "incident" down at the field not so long ago. The clips that were connected to the battery terminals shorted together. Fortunatly it did not ignite the litre of gas sitting next to it. Needless to say the gentleman in question now uses banana clips....
