Wives....
How many guys has got their wives or girlfriends to fly RC aircraft?
Well, I'm one of the lucky ones. I did not have to persuade her, she wanted to do it!
Here's a pic of her and her Thunder Tiger Trainer 40. You can see my Giles 202 in the other pic together with the other love of my life, my 2 sons.

Wow! That must be one of those cars they use at the circus! How on earth did you get those two planes. those two kids, and you two adults into that tiny car?
< Just joking > I'm glad to see your wife is as enthusiastic about RC as you are!

Actually we had to go in 2 cars. the other one is a VW Passat, and there is more than enough room in there for my Giles!
Good point though
Here's a pic of how tight the fit is of the Giles into my car

I have had the pleasure of having my wife join me at the field ONCE. She doesn't seem all that interested in flying, but so long as I let her shop, she lets me fly.

RE: Wives....
My wife .... she bought me my first plane on a whim, and got me hooked. Then she tried to fly and got herself hooked. Now she is on the exec of my club, and I am just a regular member.
Soon she will fly better than me too!
She wants to build SPAD though. I prefer the more traditional covered Balsa

RE: Wives....
My wife is sorta interested in trying it, but when I suggest we actually do it, she seems to find a reason not too that day. That's ok though.
However, she goes with me to every contest I fly, including the long haul contests (20 hrs to Texas earlier this year, what a drive), and she is really supportive of all the time and money I spend on these things. (And sometimes, I think she is a more aggressive competitor than I am, which is pretty scary )
She wants nothing to do with the noise, mess, and the smell of fuel just doesn't do her, so I don't think she will get "hooked" even if I do manage to get her on the buddy box a little.

RE: Wives....
Many years ago when we were first married, I asked my wife to sit on the back of my motorcycle, she did after some protest, but before we got into second gear she screamed to get off!
So I have at last given up the motorcycles and started flying, but there is no way I'm going to ask her to try flying!
She does support my flying though, - gets me out of her hair for a while, and she can go shopping.

RE: Wives....
Y'know what fellas? I pleaded with my wife to show some interest in flying R/C. She finally "fixed my wagon" with this statement:
"When you learn how to cross-stitch, I'll learn how to fly!"
Know any good Cross-Stitch simulators?

If your " Mormon ", like me, you teach BOTH wives to learn and fly RC. Its great to sit in the lawn chair with a cold soda and watch those two go through the pre-flight, start-up and then hand me the TX. Ah yes, nothing like a beautiful flying day with a trained pit crew, your favorite plane.............

RE: Wives....
I for one could care less if my wife is interested in rc planes. She can do as she wishes. Sometimes she DOES come to the field with me, but those times she would rather play with the dog than listen to me go on about the infinite details that is our hobby. However, I suppose it's the kid in me...but I like "showing off" for her when she IS there. And when she notices how I'm flying and says "I saw your knife edge!" That makes me feel pretty good, cause I know she really doesn't care that much for it, but she shows an interest in me, and she likes to see me happy. So I am lucky too.
Have a good trip, and ENJOY your time with your family...AND the Nats!
I'm taking the wife and kids to Muncie for the Nats in July. I was surprised that my wife wanted to go. Sometimes you get lucky!

RE: Wives....
Charlie, what do you fly at Nats?
When I travel to contests, I let my wife pick the hotel. The most "wife friendly" hotel in Muncie that we've found is the Signature Inn. Nice place, with an indoor pool. The rooms have a lot of work space in them too, for those overnight repairs and adjustments.
