Fuel spill in fuselage
I have recently had a small fuel spill in the fuselage. The tank bung wasn't as tight as it should be and pulled out causing some fuel to spill in to the fuselage. I managed to tip it out and it didnt appear to soak into the wood that much. I am wondering if it is important that I try and remove any excess that may have soaked into the wood? The problem I have is that the area where my tank is mounted is hard to access as it is covered completely and the tank gets pushed in from the rear. If possible I would like to leave it and not worry about it, as using powder and stuff to try and get the excess fuel out would then be hard to remove also.
Thanks,
Troy.

Hi Troy,
It all depends on how long you plan to keep plane. If you figure on two years or less, then you have nothing to worry about. Keep the mess in the tank compartment.
If you smash this plane and need to fix the area where there's oil residue, you can then remove clean it up with baking powder at that point.

When you get the chance and if you can do it... Mix some epoxy and coat the bottom and sides of the fuse then after it dries put the tank back in... If it is a small area I just use a model paint brush to get in them hard to reach area's.. The epoxy might add just a fraction more weight but it helps to fuel proof your fuse's fuel area..... Just a thought for you... Good luck...!!!

KR2
What I have seen used over here is called KR2 spot remover. It comes in a aerosol can. It sprays out in a dry powdery form. The guys will will apply liberal amouts and let it set for a day or 2. The chemicals will then extract the oil,,, and all thats left is to wipe away the powder.
Western Australia is cool,,, been there at Perth and Freemantle. Did a nice walkabout thru the Park with all the trees,,, unable to remember its name at this time but I know it had something to do with your past Militarys History ( Horsemans Park? )
