The first step is to purchase Ultracote.

Most covering material comes with instructions. I read several book by Faye Stilley who has won countless awards for best of show for his covering jobs. His books are available on www.amazon.com they contain lots of tips and tricks.Having the proper tools is important for a good finish as well as proper surface prep. Other than that practice, practice and more practice.

MikeL wasn't kidding. MonoKote was the first product of it's kind back in the 60's and it hasn't changed much since then. Since it was first, MonoKote is sort of the generic term for iron on covering much like "Band-aid" is used for all brands of bandages.

But seriously, look for the brand "Ultracote" (also called Oracover)it is much more user friendly that it counterparts.

The only change Monokote has made is its gotten worse, a new EPA friendly glue. Get the books by Faye Stilley, they really helped me.

There were some decent posts in the kit building forum about installing film covering. Do a search and check them out. The best advice I can give is read the directions that come with the product and get in there and practice.

I am a complete newbie at this stuff, but now have covered several planes without and specific instructions. All of the jobs have turned out ok.

Build up some test forms, and start covering them, then try some scrap surfaces. It is pretty easy, and the only advice is take your time, watch your heat, and practice!
