Great Planes PT-40 Nose Gear
I am currently training on a PT40 and need to find a replacement nose gear for it. Mine is still functional, but I working on my landing, and after about 3 or 4 touch adn goes, I need to land, am forced to land, because the nose gear gets so bent that, the prop touches the ground, and stops the engine. Any suggestions as to where I an get a new gear or a good way to fix this?
Thanks,
Jacob

The first thing you should try is turning the gear 180 degrees. It sounds silly, and it doesn't always work, but sometimes it does, so it's worth a shot.
You see, the metal in the spring is getting fatigued and allowing it to bend. By turning it around, you are now putting pressure on the spring in the opposite direction. As I said, it's worth a try before you go out and buy another one.

I though bout that, but the gear is already bent to the point where If I tried that, The Prop would probably catch the wheel, and it would probably make steering quite difficult, since there needs to be a little bit of caster in the nose wheel.

Nose-gear replacement .....
There's all kinds of gear available at the LHS, or
Mailorder. Here's a couple examples....
The one on the left is a Sullivan #865. It uses a
"knucle" design that absorbs impact better than
most, and doesn't require any bending.
The one on the right is a DU-BRO #153....
It is the universal type, and requires bending.
They both come with all new hardware, and
include new steering arms.
Hope this helps....Dave.

end all your bending problems by going to the hobby shop and getting a fults geat. Ask for it special as it has a double wire that will hold up for you. That could be spelled a little wrong maybe foults instead of fults --- not sure.
