Can't find a 4*60

RE: Can't find a 4*60
The only use I can see for thin CA is for the fabric hinges and I don't like them. I like medium CA. Thick CA acts wierd and I can't see a use for that. If you have a bit of a gap of 2 pieces of balsa that needs to be glued together, either do something to fix the gap, or use a bit of epoxy. Woodglue works great, and is lighter than epoxy but needs at least 2 hours before the 2 parts will be held together.

Also get the engine mount right away. One of the first things many kits have you do is install the t-nuts for the mount . Figuring out all of the centerlines and thrust lines and the like is easier before the firewall is mounted.

RE: Can't find a 4*60
thanks guys....got my list of stuff I need and I'm heading out from work directly to the LHS. I'll post a new thread for the build once I get home and get all the stuff inventoried.

I would agree with everything 2slow said except one. Like 2slow said don't waste money on plan protector from Great Planes. Go to Lowe's or Wal-mart in the painting section and pick up some 4 mil poly-vinyl plastic covering. CA or epoxy won't stick to it and an entire roll should last you for several kits.
Hope this helps

RE: Can't find a 4*60
Fastsky,
I think thin CA might be the glue of choice for gluing sheets together to make skins. Sure works fast, not as messy as medium CA, and once glued to the underlying structure, the seam isn't as important anymore. JMO
I must admit, I use a lot of thin CA, but I always go back in with med later and lay down filets along most joints. Epoxy works good for filets as well, but weighs much more than CA.
That's just how I build. It wouldn't win any contests, but (most of the time ) it flies!

Sounds like you know what you are doing. I may have to rethink the thin CA. Until now the only thing I noticed that the thin CA does well is stick fingers together! [8D]

Just be careful with the kicker on thin because of the way it "blooms". Real hard to sand, Med & thick don't bloom (foam) as bad.
Did we mention to get some kicker for the CA? I only use it on thin where the foaming won't matter.

For info: I have been working in the basement a lot lately so I bought some no odour type CA. When I used kicker on it, I thought it wasn't working because it didn't seem to do anything because it still looked wet. When I checked it however, I discovered that it had indeed set up but without all the foaming action and it kept the "wet" look. After that I tried a big drop of the stuff and kicked it. The drop set up hard like a drop of cured epoxy! I really like this stuff. Trouble is, at the price they charge for it there aren't too many flyers buying the stuff so the LHS don't have much supply.
