RE: Four Star 60 Build...The Saga Begins
All of Saskatchewan is the middle of nowhere. And other than being isolated from help which is know solved thanks to this forum it is pretty good. I have my own airstrip ( the neighbour is an ag spray pilot) and he lets me use a part of the runway as long as i mow it for him. My biggest issue is the gophers making potholes. (just like wartime landing on a cratered runway). Just a quick question off topic. The biplanes that you and ken were talking about how hard are they to fly and build?

Bipes aren't harder to fly, just different. The biggest difference is that you really have to learn to fly the airplane down to the ground for a landing. Unlike a lot of single wing planes that you can cut the power and float in for a landing biplanes just don't "float" very much when you cut the power. But I'll tell you this much, when you put the plane in a dive and cut the motor back and you hear the wind whistling through those two wings, you'll be hooked. Just remember, all real airplanes have 2 wings!!! [8D]
Like I said above in my joke, building a bipe just means that you have to build two wings. The wing is the most important part of building a plane, and usually takes the longest time, and when you're building a bipe you have two wings to build.

Love this thread now that MountianeerFan36 has his plane done can I use it to build my Pete'N' poke on? It's a parrsoll aircraft.

R T W - My opinion (worth 3 cents today due to inflation) is that you should start your own thread. We'd be happy to read it and help if you ask but let's leave this one "pure" if ya know what I mean.

RTW, Sounds good! Seen a few flying, but never seen one built. I'm looking forward to seeing it. [sm=thumbup.gif]
Mountaineer, anything new on the 4*? Got the weight(s) figured out?
(Still laughing about the wing thing )

I've got everything balanced out...so that problem is solved. However, another one has crept up.
I'm getting bubbles in my fuel line. I've got an inline fuel filter on the line, the tank is well packed in foam, the prop is balanced....I can't think of anyting else to do to fix this problem. You guys have any ideas?
Here are some pics of my fuel tank install for reference.

Are they affecting the running of the motor in flight. Sometimes you get more vibration/shaking on the ground than in the air, especially with 4 strokes. If the engine is OK in flight, I wouldn't worry about it.

I didn't notice an issue with it during the maiden, although I never really ran it at full throttle during the maiden either, and that is when the bubbles seem to impact the running of the engine the most.
I had a fairly rich setting, and this afternoon, was attempting to lean it out a bit, but I couldn't get a consistent tach reading on it because of the bubbles would cause it to lean out and the RPM would fluctuate at full throttle.

I don't know. I have to leave work now, I'll think about this tonight and maybe come up with some ideas. Maybe some of the others can help in the mean time. I'll check with you in the morning. []

Have you considered using soft mounts for the engine?

Edit:
Dang. They're out of stock at the moment, check LHS maybe...?

I would place a small piece of foam in front of the fuel tank, this will reduce some of the vibrations and reduce possible damange to the fuel lines. ( I can't tell for sure if there is one in there. ) You also might have a leak in one of your fuel lines, they bend sharply between the tank and the fire wall and they can tear if stressed..

The one thing you might do is replace the fuel tank with a Dubro tank since they have the lines coming out straight instead of angled up.

They wouldn't have that little bend in them then - don't know if it would help, but it couldn't hurt. Plus, it has that little piece that sticks out at the bottom in the front to keep the lines from rubbing up against the firewall.
You might also want to put some silicone around the lines were the come through the firewall to keep any fuel residues out of the tank compartment.

vibration most likely isn't an issue with all of that foam. I'd check your fuel lines. You have your lines making a pretty sharp turn just after they exit the brass portion--this is a good place to start, since many leaks can begin there (the brass tubing cuts into the silicon). The dubro suggestion might be the answer since the fuel lines are protected from this by design.

RE: Four Star 60 Build...The Saga Begins
Just a quick update.....I flew the fourstar today, and checked out how she sounded in the air. She still doesn't sound to good at full throttle in the air, suggesting to me that ground vibrations was not causing the problem.
I think you guys may be right about the fuel lines. Not sure if I can get the tank out through the former, but that is my game plan. If I can succesfully get it out, I think I'll replace it w/a 12 oz.
On a side note, even at half throttle this baby cooks! I absolutely love it. Just doing simply aerobatics with this is sooooo much easier than on the nexstar. I couldn't pull any vertical performance out of the Nexstar...and you should have seen the grin and whoop I did when I pulled a little vertical test with my fourstar.
