Folks at RCUniverse rock!!
I was not sure where to put this post so I thought I might as well put it here given that I am a newbie.
I started a post requesting information on how a beginner could get started in the hobby and I got 5 replies. One person (livinma1) happened to be in Queens where I live and offered to help me get started.
I really was not expecting more than just email conversations with him. But what does he do - instead he advises me first on AMA, then the possibility of a trainer I could use, gives me information about his club.... In addition he offers to take me to the Hobby shop and helps me select a plane .. all the time being patient with the 1000s of questions I put to him.
I thought it would end there .. but no .. he offers to take me in as a guest to his club (PARCS btw). This was yesterday when we thought the day was lost due to rain. He introduced me to some really nice people at the club .. the traffic controllers and other hobbyists. He spends 5 hours getting my plane ready and does not give a thought to flying his own plane. I was most impressed.
I am sure lucky I stumbled upon RCUniverse. You guys rock.

Outstanding! There are a lot of people out there like that (myself included) who just really enjoy seeing someone succeed and have fun at this great hobby. For every story you hear about bad apples, there's probably a dozen about people who are willing to help.

RE: Folks at RCUniverse rock!!
No problem, we all began the hobby knowing nothing or maybe nearly nothing if we were lucky. I was fortunate to be introuduced to this hobby when I was very young and while I may have not been the best student; I have had the opportunity to know many gifted pilots and builders. At the feild and to some extent these forums, I try to do what I can to return the many favors I was given. If someone at my club needed help building sometingt, I would stop working on my own projects to help them. Hang in their and don't be afraid to ask questions and one day people will ask you for advise
