Getting a little further on the nose. As you can see, I decided to take a little artistic license and deviate on the transition into the front. The zig-zag was easier and (IMO) looked more consistent with the lines than my originally designed radius. But now I'm dreading the thought of covering the compound corners on the front of the cowl.

Looking good, krossk! Cowl looks good.
On those close up shots, select the macro button if your camera has it (should looke like a flower above the button).

Well, I've finally got all the covering done except for the last piece on the bottom (after final balance check and control cable installation).
I'll post some better pics after I get the tail surfaces hinged, but you get the idea of the finished product from these...

RE: Another Beginner Build - Sig Somethin' Extra
Thanks guys, I am really pleased with how it is turning out. After seeing the cowl finished, I'm really wishing I would have made the white stripe across the top at least twice as wide as I did. I kept it the same width as the side stripes, but I think it should have been at least double that to transition from the purple to that much orange. I'm alos hoping that I don't run into any cooling problems by not having any air flowing through the cowl. Oh well, if that happens, then I guess I'll have an opportunity to fix the stripe!
And I am sort of anxious to see it in the air, but I'm not too overly eager to put her there yet. I still need a lot more practice time on my T2 before I'll be brave enough to maiden this one. But I'm hoping that time will come by late spring. I was hoping to have it ready to show off at the next club meeting on 12/19, but it's looking more like the January meeting.

I'm in the process of hooking up the tail surfaces. I've got the rudder & elevator hinged and the pull-pull connected on the elevator. It still needs the throws adjusted, but I'm really impressed with how solid the elevator is with this set-up. There's NO give whatsoever when deflection. When I get the cables finished on the rudder, then I'll post some detail pics of the controls.
Also, does anyone have any tips on cutting the canopy so it fits closely without screwing it up?

The covering looks great! As for the canopy, what I did was to cut a narrow piece of masking tape and put that down along the indicated line on the canopy first. I then purchased and used a pair of canopy scissors and was able to cut precisely along the line. This made for a perfect fit.
Good luck,
tychoc

RE: Another Beginner Build - Sig Somethin' Extra
That really is an awesome job on that cowl. The whole plane actually. I almost have my SE to the bare bones stage and am starting to think about a nice cover job myself. I have trouble with the overlaps though. I know that the darker colors should go OVER the lighter ones. I also think the seams need to flow ;top covering of seem toward the direction of flight. It appears on the top of the fuse between the cockpit and the cowl, your purple overlaps your white with the rear covering on top. Are you worried that that will come loose? Is it usually O.K. to do this. It sure would expand my creativity if it works out well. Please don't take this as a dis. I am just curious. I have been building for 15 years now but I have never done a lot of trim on my models. (2 big color type guy...with decals of course) and I always seem to be limited by the dark/light color and seam overlap direction quandry.
Thanks and keep up the great work.

Generally speaking, I try to follow the rules of covering and overlap as you describe, but there are circumstances when exceptions need to be made. Yes, the purple does overlap the white with the exposed edge going "the wrong way". But if the seam is secured well, there is no reason to believe it will come apart. If anything is going to fail, it will be the black pinstripes between the white and orange. I try to take care to use a heat setting just below the shrink point to insure maximum adhesion. Also, if this was a 200 mph racer, I would be more concerned. But this plane isn't built to rip the wings off from speed. I may be proven wrong in my assumptions, but even if that does happen, I covered it once - I can do it again...

Got the tail surfaces connected and had to see what the whole thing was going to look like. The canopy and spinner are just sitting on and need some final trimming to fit correctly, but it really makes the plane look complete. A quick finger-tip balance is within 1/4" of the main spar - close enough that I can probably go ahead and cover the bottom without much risk. I tried to get some close-up pics of the pull-pull setup. (Thanks to Advent for the inspiration). I can't wait to see it with the wheel pants.

Pretty awesome. You definitely will have no trouble telling top from bottom in those fading light moments..... Very well done.

I've been following this thread since the beginning..
First off, Congrats Kiswa on the great news! I'm assuming this is your first (pass the hat if I didn't read right ) ; enjoy every moment of it! You're life will never be the same; indeed it will be much much merrier
I'm really in awe of the amazing building and covering skills you guys have shown here! It's truly an inspiration
And the SSEs look really nice! I'm just finishing off a Slow Poke 40 kit (very roughly I might add ), but the thread here inspired my next to be the SSE. Asked for one for Christmas, keeping my fingers crossed
Cheers all, and please post more pics and vids - I love these!
All the best,
Harold

Ross, that is simply an outstanding job on your SE.
I've got a roll of Pearl Blue U-cote that was purchased to patch a hole I had to open in the bottom of an H9 27% Extra to properly rig the rudder pull-pull. I used a piece about 6"x 3".
I think I know what one of the colors of the grandson's new SE is going to be. I'm thinking red and yellow for the other two colors.
Any problem with me shamelessly copying your lay-out?
