Exeter - :P

Okay something funny, we were at the LHS one evening and a girl came in to buy fuel. One of the guys made a stupid remark after she left, he said she will choose the fuel according to colour etc etc. Well the owner of the shop then told the guy that that girl DOES indeed fly, hehehehe ... anyways I was curious so I went to the flied she flies at. Its a small place with a big pond in front. Well ... she can fly okay but she had a dead stick and she panicked, no prizes for guessing where the plane landed! Poor thing ... the trainer was floating, we had to wait for it to get to the bank!
personally id have thought this post was far more insulting to a lady?,i dont see any harm in calling a yng girl babe!!,its a term we use a lot over here and its only meant as a friendly bit of banter .im sure she wouldnt be offended by it in the slightest lol.instead of having a go at me for bringing a bit of humour or friendly banter into the thread id have thought the above post was far more insulting!!!.if sunkiseed girl reads this i hope she realises i was just having a bit of fun with her not at her?.

Spoken like a true short sticked noob.[sm=thumbdown.gif]

No, spoken like a realist...

Euphamistic language and political correctness have no place in a free society...rules to govern speech are wrong period...we think in words, you control the way people speak, you control the way they think...

I have nothing against being nice, I usualy am out of Respect, but its a choice, nobody should be forced to do so...

The PC (political correct) police are much more idiotic over here I'm afraid Martno1fan. On our side of the pond there are those who will find fault with anything that anyone says for the mere pleasure of it. I personally realize that you meant no harm and I doubt that she took personal offense. I hope not at least. There are groups that are IMO destroying the foundation of our country in the name of PC and I am sick of it but they have the lawyers (ACLU) on there side. OK, off my soap box and back to RC.

Actually, if she cant handle a comment like that she wont last long in the hobby...

Its a male dominated hobby, good or bad, and you put in Hen in a house full of roosters there's gonna be some noise made...she seems intellegent enough to know and most likely expect that...

Oh, and political correctness is reserved for crybaby libral hippies....the Rest of the world doesnt seem to have a problem with reality...and nobody ever has the right to not be offended, ever...if your offended, go somewhere else, do something else, or get over it...thats life....

I dissagree. Why can't we treat women with the same respect we treat fellow guys? I think the "funny" comments about looks etc. shouldn't be there and yes, we can learn to not make them.

Martno1fan, calm down, we all slip up once in a while, no big thing. I don't believe she was offended. She'll be back. To change the subject, and from my expierence, women do make better pilots, I'm really good, but my wife will fly circles around me all day. They tend to be much more smooth on the controls. Probably all the guys here would like to tell me I'm "full of it " but when I watch her at the controls, I just can't deny it. [ add a silly look on her face and it adds insult to injury ] Gotta go, MM

Mart...its not all like that, its actually a small percentage of people...but they make the news because its the same group of people that whine and cry about everyone and everything all the time...

Most 'Real' americans dont subscribe to that kind of mentality....

The real problem is people have lost the ability to laugh at themselves, and therefore wont allow others to laugh period...

Remember when you were young and you tripped...you laughed at yourself and all your buddies laughed, now if you see someone trip, you're not allowed to laugh, whats wrong with this picture? Nobody can take a joke, nobody can do anything without pissing someone off...

What I dont get, is that the imaginary right that people think they have to not be offended has superceded the written right of everyone else to speak freely...

MY point was, that,I don`t know this lady, personally,on a ,1 on 1 basis, aside from this thread. And I would Hazard a guess, that, no one else here, does either..What I do know is, that if a stranger took the liberty, of calling my sister (4 example), anything but her, name, or MRS.LAST NAME,,,Respectfully..I would probably, excersise my right, and liberty, to give that person, an ASPHALT face wash..then take what ever punishment handed to me...Is that P.C.??? There`s 2 sides to a fence, and I can jump back, and forth,as well as anyone.....I came in to this thread to enspire a stranger,to stick with the hobby, and see some progress..What`s next?? Jokingly speaking racial slurrs,a person might take it as fun,and give you one back..With out knowing the individual, they may find it offensive, and do like suggested, Leave RCU, for another site . Speaking of sites, there are appropriate ones for calling a woman who is, a,stranger ;Babe ,Honey ,Doll,Beach, whatever you want to say, to them.I think there called Porn, and Sex, hot lines..I beleive we all, should keep our comments, constructive, encouraging, and, respectfull..Everyone has their oppinion this one is mine. While in RCU, I`ll ,try to keep my NON P.C. thoughts for the street...D.B.

Well, how respectfull is it for someone to hold you to another culture's standards of language and jump on you when you say something...

Ive spent time in London on business, babe is thrown around as a general term, with no side meaning other than anther way to say woman...

I would think that you, someone willing to fight over something that your sister has been called, are far more dangerous, and far less benificial to any society, than somone who believes everyone should be able to speak their mind...say something wrong and meet violence.....nice attitude

Entitled? Indeed in public, but not in RCU. I do not feel your comments or titles for the opposite sex reflect the positive, non-embarassing, offensive, civil, or RC/model airplane intents of this site. [&o] IMO poor form sir.

This is the definition of babe from the Oxford dictonary.

babe

• noun 1 literary a baby. 2 informal a sexually attractive young woman.
I also asked some brits and the connotation of babe in England is not much different than the US.

IMHO not appropriate here on RCU to address a fellow member.

Im sorry

Lets all user baby-language, make sure we never possibly offend anyone, and make sure that we put everyone elses right before ours...

You know what, we better shut the forum down completely for fear that we might hurt someones wittle bitty feewings...

BTW...from dictionary.com

A baby; an infant.
An innocent or naive person.
Slang. A young woman. <---the one he used it as
Informal. Sweetheart; dear. Used as a term of endearment

Your definition of the word, as well as any single dictionary's definition, cant be held against another persons standards...

Personally, I find it offensive that your saying that your right and everyone else is wrong, and how dare they use words in the way that they were taught to mean...so does that mean that your in the wrong, sencse i mgith be offended...

Ok, this has gone just about far enough. I've been watching this unfold and have considered stepping in several times, but decided to see if things worked themselves out. It's starting to look like this has moved beyond a civil discussion and moving into areas that are better left alone, and no matter what we are now off of the topic. Emotions are starting to get involved and that usually isn't a good thing, or at least not when it detracts from the original intent of this thread.

Before anybody speculates that I am, or are not, being politically correct I'll set the record straight. I don't buy into a lot of the "Political Correctness" movement. I think that they are usually a lot of fancy language that lets people hide behind some of the cold hard realities of life. I try to be a straight shooter and call them like I see them.

Now, with that being said, I'm going to point out something. These are the Rules of Posting for RCU, and in particular the rules for inappropriate language.

INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE:
The use of inappropriate, offensive language or language substitutions are not permitted on RCUniverse.com. Inappropriate or offensive language includes, but is not limited to, any language or content that is sexually oriented, sexually suggestive or abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, profane, hateful, or that contains racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable material of any kind. We ask that you please be considerate to other members in the forums when posting your messages. RCU is a place that is friendly to members of all ages and that parents know is safe for kids. We will not allow linking, mention or reference to any website or organization that contains any of the aforementioned objectionable content. Any posts or links made to websites containing such will be removed and a warning given.
I am not trying to pick on anybody here in this post, but these are the rules of RCU. All members agreed to abide by the rules when they signed up for an account. That's the plain and simple fact, whether you agree or disagree about saying offensive language here on RCU everybody has agreed to not use it. If there are those that think that they don't need to abide by those rules any longer I would urge them to take up the matter with the administration of RCU as I can't make that level of decision.

I am not taking any sides in this discussion, but I will say that the only person who can determine if the comments are offensive is the one that they are directed at. Which in that case they could contact the moderators who would act to take care of the problem. The administration of RCU has always acted quickly to take care of problems here on this site. I feel that is one of the many reasons why RCU is such a great place for those in the RC hobbies to meet and exchange information.

I'm hoping that everybody involved here can stop to realize that this kind of argument will probably chase people off quicker than any perceived insults or offensive language. My initial intent when I started to type this post was to go ahead and lock this thread down, but as I type here I'm starting to change my mind. I'm going to leave it open and hope that everybody can agree to disagree and get back to welcoming a new person into this great hobby. I've got a pretty good feeling that everybody here can get this thread back on track. If that can't happen I will lock this thread down before it gets anymore out of control.

Ken

my god i cant beleive this has got blown way out of proportion!!!,maybe we should ban brits from rcu as all my friends and familly use the prase babe when talking to a person of the opposite sex.it is as rjm says used as a term of endeerment ,a compliment and is even use by girls to refer to there friends probably more so than by guys!!.it is in no way meant in a sexual way and as far as it been used on so called porn sites!! i wouldnt know D BRONK feel free to tell us all how you know!!!!.if ive ever said anything offensive to anyone then they probably deserved it lol.as for my talking to sun kissed girl and calling her babe it was not meant in an offensive way and i will stand up for my right to call a girl babe if i so wish !!.if she told me she didnt like it then i would of course not use it again.i hope if she is reading all this rubbish that she understands the way in which i intended this.i wish her all the luck in the world in the hobby.
DBRONK you sound like such a reasonable person lol[:@]asphalt face haha you need to get a grip on reality and get a life lol.i supose ill get deleted for saying that but i dont have to take crap like that from anyone.my familly fought in two world wars and i exersise my right to say what i think i earnd it!!.thats my last word on this bull crap!!.deep breaths calm down lol.

Everyone,

I'd like to apologize, as usual Ken is correct and since I'm the one that started the PC thing then I need to say I'm sorry to everyone, especially Sun_Kissed_Girl.

I mentioned that because I have first hand experience in it. Now that does not mean I agree with it and I do not as I also believe it's a way to gain control and manipulate (my thoughts only), but when you have to deal with it on a daily basis [:'(], you learn a thing or two about the thought process behind it.

Now as far as the actual thread goes, I feel it needs to be cleaned up. So that you all know I'm going back through my posts and editing out the polictical stuff

Sorry for my long absence dudes. College has pretty much taken over my life (and I've been dating a dude from the flying field, too).

I've been reading over this thread and have been offended a few times, but not to the point where I'm gonna go spastic on y'all. I've lived through all of the female stereotypes and all of that whoha, and still go through it on a near daily basis. It's funny how when a girl steps out of her "female" boundaries, guys all over the place freak out and will say and/or do anything to keep her in her place. Ahh, the joys of living of living in a male dominated society. One of the reasons why I got into model airplanes (and RC in general) was because of a lifelong quest to defy feminine stereotypes and stupidity. I could go into more detail about that, but then this would become an essay really quickly and easily.

As for my flying progress, things have been at a standstill. With the help of a friend from the flying field, we've managed to get the NexStar in flying shape and currently waiting to maiden it (my flight instructor wasn't there on Sunday). I won't be able to maiden this Sunday because I'll be riding quads at the dunes with a guyfriend. Last Sunday, however, I found out that the NexStar has a minor fuel problem, so it wouldn't have maidened anyway. It'll be up in the air hopefully within the next two weeks.

My off-time is mostly dominated by studying, reading, reviewing, and more studying. I occaisionally (sp?) go bash RC trucks with my guyfriends, which has been a helpful stress reliever. I've been keeping my social life alive through MSN Messenger, dating, and through the cell phone. I'm loving life right now. I've got a 4.0 GPA, dating this totally awesome guy, have lost weight throughout the summer and am happy with my body, in love with my car (2004 Ford Mustang -- before Ford butchered it with the redesign) now that I'm fully aware of how it handles and reacts... basically enjoying every breathing moment of existance. It's a beautiful thing. [sm=sunsmiley.gif]

So there's my long update for y'all.

I'll keep you posted as time progresses.

And for those who haven't been able to see my pics, here are the links:

Ya, I met her out there last weekend (I'm not the guy she's dating, BTW), and the engine died between transition so I thought it had a LSN problem, but after I adjusted it, SKG didn't want to stay to test it so she packed it up and we both left.

As far as bashing RCs, y'all should see my Traxxas Stampede (electric) after she blew some steam on it! [X(]

I like the new stangs better than the more recent old ones...I always figured the mustang died when they killed the 5.0 and would never dome back..

And the New Mustang GT was the top of my list, that is, untill i got to test drive a 2006 Dodge Charge Daytona, and we put it (on the test drive, with the dealer in the back seat) agaist my buds 2005 Mustang GT...and we smoked him...but what do ou expect from a Mopar Powerplant (6.2 liters of ball busting rocket power) ... Not to mention that big motor gets better gass milage when just sunday driving...since it cuts 4 cylinders in a cruise....

Ok, so another sidetrack, but I had to brag about that test-drive, ive never been so impressed in my life....and the traction control...i floored it halfway through a u-turn and couldnt even break the rear end out...just accelerated faster out of a turn than any car i've ever driven...

SKG, Your posted snapshots of you and your rc plane here on RC Universe were deemed inapropriate, vulgar and pornographic to be displayed on the company's computor by the company I work for here in "Utah". Hence they are "blocked" by powers above. All I can do is shake my head in disbelief. Oh well. MM[&o]
