flying off water
hello,
I was wondering how much harder it is to fly off of and land on water. someone that flies at our local club is selling a seamaster with an os.46fx and servos for 150 bucks!! its only been flown once in nine years and is in excellent condition, so Im gonna take the oportunity since I want to venture into flying off water. any advice would be great!!!

It's not that much different, and it's lots of fun. It can be a bit more difficult to turn when on the water if there's much wind. You also need to be careful to keep up elevator when taxiing and during the initial takeoff run. This keeps the float tips above water.

RE: flying off water
Float Flying isn't that difficult and the Seamaster is an excellent plane - this looks like a great deal. [8D]
The problem with Float Flying is the extra support equipment that you need - like a BOAT... [X(] (for recovery services)
A site on the water helps too, now you have to consider other things like - TREES on the shoreline, if you are located in a cove with the trees all around you your field of vision is reduced quickly (Very quickly with the Seamaster - that plane can move!)
Standing on a dock always bothers me - I keep thinking that if I take one little step I'm going to fall off ...[]
OK; now you have to have a spotter to watch for people in boats - RC planes on the beach attract PEOPLE like crazy and they do not understand that the toy that is on approach can hurt them... [][:'(]
With water; you have an easy time landing just point the plane into the waves, unless the wind is at your back ... then you could have your landing approach coming strait at you! [X(]
The beauty of the Seamaster is that it can fly off of water, snow or wet grass - wheels are available - but not really required. This is one great plane - be careful though because it is not for a beginner...
All in all float flying is a great time you just have to understand the situation and treat it with the respect that is due - just like the rest of the hobby. Find a local instructor with experiance in Float Flying and have a ball!
Good Luck!

And just for the record, you don't need water to fly a Seamaster. One of my favorite things to do is to lay it on the grass and take off from its belly.
Here's a video of me doing just that:

That's pretty kewl Minn!! I might need to put that one on my list. The float plane thing has been on my to do list from the very beginning. I just haven't gotten around to doing it yet. I really like the fact that it doesn't have to have water to fly. It takes off & lands just fine off of dry grass it looks like from your video!
