Default Phoenix models STREGA

Does anyone have any experience with this P-51 wannabe powered with a TT .46 Pro? Thanks for the input.

It is in fact the ideal introductory warbird. It is not a primary trainer for learning on but the perfect warbird starter. It is a far superior flying airplane in many ways to the PTS.

I have been running a series of RC Pro warbird races here and we do visit PHX en mass twice a year for their events. The little Strega has proven superior to them all for our purposes. I think locally we are up to ten of them powered with piped and unpiped .46's as well as 61's.

Many of these folks are just off their trainers and I have been mentoring them along the way to pylon racing and that airplane is perfect.

Just yesterday we had a race and it looked like a sea of pumkins.

With the wing fillet in the way to get to the absolute leading edge, does this mater?

Hi Hairy, Yes I still have one Strega and even get dragged back to a race now and then. The Fillets at least on the earlier ARFS (have not seen one of the latest with the retracts) serve no purpose being so poorly fitted that most of us left them off entirely with no apparent penalty. Take a look at that group shot I posted nine years ago and most did not use them.

OK cool but I am, curious. How are the fillets affecting the CG they really are rather light perhaps a bit but not all that much. Is that what you are talking about. The little ..46's were not much of a CG problem but the big .91 to 115 four strokes, it was common practice to move the rudder and elevator servos behind the wing and cutting a hatch in the bottom of the fuselage for access. Sometimes the battery also went back there.

What are you using for power and is your ship an orange one with fixed gear or the latest with installed retracts?

They where interfering with my CG machine, so I just used fingertips to get it, at 125 mm back behind the leading edge, it still took 2 and a half oz of lead up front to get it to balance, have a 46 os Ax in it.

TT Pro .46 is a good match for this ARF; it's a pretty quick combination even with stock exhaust.

Got to maiden the Strega on a strange March day Sunday in Wyoming (no wind) couple clicks down and she was on rails' low super fast passes and knew I was going to enjoy this plane, the only damage to it was' I was taking off the wing and hands was cold so I had gloves on. Dropped the scew driver through the wing. But she is fixed. Great airplane and will assembly the new one with the retracts next.

Man I have sure done that one more than I care to remember, drop stuff through the wing that is

hairy do you have both the new arf with the installed retracts and the older fixed gear version, those were all orange? I would much appreciate a comparison of the structures outside of the obvious changes for the gear would you say the base structures are the same or any dimensional or major changes?

Thanks

John

John, have not even had the new red one out of the box yet, So don't know much about it yet but looking forward to getting it in the air. The orange one is fast and flys great.
