Sig Kadet Senior 80"
I bought my KS 2 weeks ago, took it out for its maiden Tuesday evening. First flight was a trim flight, with my instructer and president of our club sharing control. Second flight was my turn on the buddy box. The plane was flying great! Stable, easy to see. I put her into a loop, which didnt turn out so good. My instructer took over and looped her, brought her into level flight. Then all h@#l broke loose. The wings parted company with the fuse, which turned the fuse into a lawn dart. When we found it, it was a total lose. On inspection, the forward wing mounts had broken, They were just 1 piece of wood glued into each wing root, and it looked like the glue was used very sparingly. These pieces key into a slot in the top of the fuse. When they let go, the wing had nothing securing it. Has any one else had a similar experience? We are sending photos to Sig, don't know what kind of response we will get...............

The very same thing happened at our field the other day. Sorry, I received this second hand from a friend who was there and saw it happen. The flyer was an out of town visitor so can't furnish a name.
Sorry about your plane.

Thanks a lot. They are a beautiful plane, and all the posts i have read can't say enough good about them. But, if any one else reading this post has one, check out the leading edge wing mounts and reinforce them!!!!!! It may save you a very good plane.............

You might want to call the distributor in light of the fact there are two such instances in this thread. Maybe you could e-mail them pics and they might help you replace it.
It's worth a try.

In opening this thread, I said the forward wing mounts had broken. They actually came apart where they are glued to the wing root. It looks like they were just hot glued........

Are you sure the tabs were glued in place? In most wings of this type attachment that I have seen the tab is part of the root rib and it is all cut as one piece.
Perhaps this was previously damaged and a lousy repair had been made? These types of tabs have been known to break off during shipping.

I dont know if it was a lousy repair job or what, but they were not cut with the root rib. They were separate pieces, hot glued in place...........

I recently bought a senoir from tower during assembly found the ailerons were warped also was not impressed with the new covering, aerokote. On maiden flight everything okay just had to trim to compensate for the warped ailerons. Oh yeah throw away the cheap pushrods, to much flexing. I reinforced the wing block and servo tray, and replaced the servo mounting blocks for the ailerons, came with little plastic covers.

I also replaced the plastic push rods. Didnt look like the longevity would be that great. If i get another, I will also replace the aileron servo trays, the epoxy didnt seem to want to bond to the plastic all that great. Also, dont use 5 minute epoxy as suggested for the tail feathers, I used 30 minute. Bonds better, and gives more time for adjustment.

Munk Dog,
You are more than welcome.
Was this a new purchase?? If so I would get on the phone to Sig and let them know what happened. It pretty much looks the the wing just out and out failed. Sig has always been a very standup company and takes care of problems like this. Tell them what happened, and point them to this thread with the pictures if needed. I'm pretty sure they will take care of this for you short order.

Yes, it was a new purchase, thru Tower. We are e-mailing them the pictures and a synopsis on what happened. The rest is up to them. This was my first purchase of a Sig plane.

I have dealt with Tower, and you are right, they have always taken care of any problems I have had. I have ordered some tools, supplies, etc thru Sig, this is my first ARF, and every one I have spoken to has said the same about them. I do appreciate your input, and hopefully this will have a some what happy ending. My only regret is not having a picture of the look on my instructors face when those wings fluttered off!!!! It was priceless, and I am sure I had much the same look on mine!
