For radios Tower Hobbies is hard to beat.
For engines Chief Aircraft and Tower are both great

Default cheapiest place to buy

I've ordered from the Hobby People on several occassions. Their prices are as low as Towers and I like the service a lot better. I never heard of chief before a few days ago, and people seem to like them so I'm going to check them out as well.

Some others:

Hobby Lobby
Hobby Barn

If you are looking for used items that may have many years left in them, check out the classifieds here on RCU. Link at the top of the page.

I second Juice-Dog.
By buying from sellers on RCU you also support it and you get a great deal to boot!

You have to look around. If there was only one lowest price, everyone else would be out of business. Shop around a bunch and you might find a deal. Check the engines for sale in the forum and find a deal too.

I'm new, and have been doing a lot of search for good deals.
I found a great plane from a great user here at RCU. Now I'm searching for a radio and engine. I did find a really good deal on an Airtronics VG400 radio with 4 servos.
Radio Well you can't beat Quantummodels.com, I just checked them out. It's only $1 more, but FREE shipping.
Not sure if that's what I'm going to get though.
Other than that, check the sites listed above, and the RCU sales area.

I am a big fan of quantummodels, great service and the Reddens are really out to serve the r/c public. I have dealt with tower hobbies, and others, this is my dealer of choice. GO Cats

My LHS will match Tower and every one else's prices. I wonder if yours would "sharpen their pencil" if they knew you were a serious buyer.
