Sky Surfer Question
Just looked at the sky surfer. If you pay $250 for that, your nuts. If you want to fly RC, get a good RC trainer and learn right. Look at something like a Goldberg Eagle 63 or a PT-40. If you want to spend a bunch of money on a toy, and then get frusterated and quit, then go for the sky surfer.
If you want to throw money away, throw it my way.
Heres a link for those that don't know what it is.

Sky Surfer Question
I just can't imagine that you're going to get $250 of fun out of that thing. I could be wrong though! I mean, if you really have a thing for paragliding then this could be the model for you!
I'll be sticking to planes though.

Sky Surfer Question
well just look at the video! it looks slow, boring, lo-tech and lacking control compared to a plane! go for a nice .40 sized trainer atleast! might have to chip in slighty more though

Sky Surfer Question
NO IMHO a complete waste of money, even more waste on money than a parkflier (see no brand names)
if your looking for that type of fun save a heap of $$$$$ and buy a kite, some of the control line kites are a buzz on a windy day and they only cost $20 or so

Sky Surfer Question
If your goal is to learn how fly RC aircraft then both the motorized parachute as well as the firebird are expensive sidetracks that will do nothing in the pursuit of that goal! It is my feeling that the firebird which is only slightly controllable has done considerable harm to the sport and lost a lot of new flyers who will never be seen agine.

Sky Surfer Question
If you want to goof around the local park... by all means go ahead and spend (IMHO waste) the $250.
if you want to learn to fly RC save the money and put it towards a good 40 size trainer... say a SPAD www.spadtothebone.com

RE: Sky Surfer Question
This forum looks like it has pretty much had it but I will give my 2 cents anyways for other people who are thinking about getting the sky surfer. I have 2 gas planes, 1 electric plane(zagi) and the sky surfer. The gas planes are a blast when you are at the flying field for 5 hours. The electric planes you can just go to your local park and have a blast. If I were at the park and had both my sky surfer and zagi i would prefer to fly my sky surfer. I can have so much fun with it. Even though many people go for speed and tricks, when you fly the sky surfer you can just sit back, relax and just have fun. You can even attach a disposable camera to the sky surfer along with a timer and have aerial pictures in no time. Even since I got my sky surfer I have been having a blast with it! I hope some people now appreciate slow, electric flying.

RE: Sky Surfer Question
how can some of you compare the flying experience of planes versus something like the skysurfer??
theres fun to be had with both! whatever takes your fancy! you might as well be comparing frisbees with paper planes
some ppl like the skysurfer, while others like other forms of slow flyers. No need to pay out on the skysurfer saying what a waste of money it is. I bet there are lots of rc enthusiasts partners out there who think this whole hobby is a waste of money!

RE: Sky Surfer Question
I had a very early version of the paraplane. I only paid $100 for it on clearance because it was missing the battery. Even that was too much money for it. I took it to a local school yard and flew it a few times. It was fun but there was very little it would do. It took a long time for it to gain altitude and the battery ran down before I could get over about 200'. I let each of my kids fly it and none of them had any problem controlling it. The last time, my 8 year old daughter landed it perfectly on her first time at the stick. I sold it the first chance I got to recover my money. Your $250 would be much better spent on something else.

RE: Sky Surfer Question
The Sky Surfer, IMHO, is going to be a waste of your money. You will become bored and tired of it VERY quickly. As for learning how to fly, I don't feel that it will really provide any REAL help.
If you want something that you can learn on AND have some fun I suggest an Easy Star http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXFXV0&P=ML for electric
OR
something like the Tower trainer or Hobbico SuperStar. If you decide to go with glow power, get a decent 46 ball bearing engine, such as an OS, Evolution or Thunder Tiger. The Tower engine, while quite reasonable in price, are a hit or miss as far as relialbility and tuning go. There are several threads on the TH engines and they all seem to have 2 things in common - air leaks and carb/transition problems. ESPECIALLY if you are just starting out, do yourself a favor and spend a couple of more dollars for a GOOD engine. You will have more enjoyment and substantially less aggrevation. The 3 brands mentioned above I can say (1st hand experience/ownership) are good, USER FRIENDLY engines.
